Stories like this highlight the power of local partnerships. At Sysco, we are proud to support small businesses and help bring locally grown, artisan ingredients to the tables and communities that value them most.  We are prouder still that along the way we grow our people, too. Sysco is a great place to work, creating an environment in which our colleagues can develop and advance their career.

Throwback Thursday — Hard Work Pays Off. In 2022, J’s BBQ was invited to become a partner of Sysco’s Home Grown program. It was an opportunity that made us stop for a moment and realize something bigger: we had made an impact. As a restaurant. As a brand. As a business built around a compelling story, quality products, and a reputation we had worked incredibly hard to earn. Our perseverance to keep growing—and to keep building our own destiny—was leading us into an entirely new chapter. This photo was taken in early 2023, the day our very first J’s BBQ purchase order was backhauled to Sysco. And standing there with us was our Sysco driver at the time, David Serrato, who was honestly JUST AS EXCITED AS WE WERE. Since then, 60+ purchase orders have shipped from our co-manufacturers to Sysco East, cross-docking through Baraboo and Chicago as J’s BBQ has continued growing into a Midwest brand, and most recently partnering with European Imports, a Sysco Company. But J’s BBQ isn’t the only one who has grown. Today, David has advanced from driver to Sales Consultant with Sysco Foods. David didn't simply deliver our orders. He unloaded them with care, placed every case exactly where it needed to go, and—more importantly—showed up every time with warmth, kindness, connection, and a work ethic we deeply respected. There was always a shared understanding between us: Hard work pays off. Today, we’re grateful for David’s work ethic, dedication, and perseverance—and proud that our paths crossed during such an important chapter for both of us. We didn’t step into a path that had already been created for us. We cultivated our own. With fortitude. With grit. With devotion. And with the belief that something meaningful can be built one relationship, one opportunity, and yes—one purchase order at a time. We’re proud and honored to meet like-minded people like David along the way—people who remind us that anything is possible when you're willing to do the work. Be bold. Be you. Be unstoppable.
