APA California - Northern also recognized the Bayview Community Shuttle with an Opportunity and Empowerment Excellence Award. The shuttle is a community-driven transportation program designed to make getting around Bayview-Hunters Point easier, safer and more affordable. The three-year, grant-funded initiative brings on-demand shuttle service, workforce development opportunities and transportation resource assistance while giving community members decision-making power. It was developed in partnership with nine local nonprofit organizations and guided by extensive community engagement involving more than 4,000 residents. Congratulations to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) on receiving this year’s Opportunity and Empowerment Award for Excellence for the Bayview Community Shuttle. Launched in November 2024, the Bayview Community Shuttle is an on-demand, all-electric micro-transit service that improves mobility within the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood while connecting riders to key transit hubs and health services. Operating seven days a week, the service was developed in partnership with nine local nonprofit organizations and guided by extensive community engagement involving more than 4,000 residents. The shuttle offers multilingual booking through a mobile app and call center, with service available in English, Spanish, Tagalog, and Cantonese. Via, the private partner, manages daily operations of the eight-vehicle fleet—three of which are wheelchair accessible. Funded by a $10.5 million Sustainable Transportation Equity Projects (STEP) grant from the California Air Resources Board, the project also supports the Transportation Resource Center, a hub for mobility education and workforce development. Community input shaped every phase of the project through events, surveys, and the Community Congress. Since launch, the service has completed over 11,000 rides, achieved a 4.9/5 rider satisfaction rating, and maintained 15-minute response times. One resident shared, “It’s the best thing that ever happened to the neighborhood.” Join us on May 15th at the Awards Gala to celebrate this year’s honorees. Register here: https://bit.ly/APACA2025

Thank you to APA California - Northern for honoring two of our recent projects, and congratulations to the SFMTA staff and community partners who created them. The SFMTA, PODER/Bicis del Pueblo, Bayview Hunters Point Community Advocates, the Tenderloin Community Benefit District, the New Community Leadership Foundation, and SoMa Pilipinas received a Transportation Planning Excellence Award for the San Francisco Biking and Rolling Plan. The plan will ensure that biking and rolling are safe, viable options for people of all ages and abilities across San Francisco. It was shaped by extensive community engagement and includes community action plans developed for the Tenderloin, Bayview-Hunters Point, SoMA, Mission and Excelsior and Fillmore/Western Addition. Learn more here: Biking and Rolling Plan | SFMTA
Congratulations to San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and its community partners for winning this year's Transportation Planning Excellence Award for the San Francisco Biking and Rolling Plan. San Francisco’s Biking and Rolling Plan is an equity-centered, holistic active mobility plan that aims to improve the safety, accessibility, and joy of getting around on human-powered and low-speed devices. The new plan directs SFMTA’s future investments in the biking and rolling network, support facilities, programs, and policies for the next 15-20 years. Through strong and collaborative community partnerships, the Plan forges a shared vision reflecting community needs and advancing city goals. The Biking and Rolling Plan involves an inclusive year-long outreach process to engage residents citywide about biking, scooting, rolling, and how it can, or should, evolve. The Plan’s wide-ranging engagement includes a significant and unprecedented focus on the disability community, monolingual communities, youth, women/trans/nonbinary people, and communities that have been historically excluded and underserved by transportation planning. The Plan includes goals, policies, community-led Community Action Plans, and a forward-looking North Star Network map. Together, these elements deliver a flexible and actionable framework that charts a course to deliver bikeway facilities within a quarter mile of all San Franciscans. Beyond just bikeways, the Biking and Rolling Plan also outlines the programs and support facilities needed to make biking and rolling accessible to current and future users, such as education, subsidies, parking and storage facilities, and considerations to support the needs of communities experiencing displacement and gentrification, small businesses, transit corridors, and first responders. Join us tomorrow, May 15th, to celebrate these winners and all other awardees at this year's Awards Gala. Visit Eventbrite to purchase your ticket: https://lnkd.in/g7myEcKS

✅ Expanding electric vehicle ownership is one of the fastest ways to decarbonize San Francisco’s transportation sector. ❌ But it can be tough to charge an EV when you don’t have off-street parking. 💡 We’re working hard to reduce this barrier for residents across the city – by bringing EV charging right to the curb. Last week, we launched the city’s Curbside EV Charging Pilot along with our partners at San Francisco Public Works, San Francisco Environment Department, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, and it's electric. Together, we opened up the city’s first two curbside charging stations at 55 Fillmore Street in Duboce Triangle. We encourage you to stop by for a charge. Check out our latest blog (link in comments) to learn more about the pilot program – and how it could bring more than 1,500 public EV chargers citywide by 2030.
