  • Today, on National Intern Day, we’re proud to recognize the incredible contributions our interns have made this summer and the bright future they represent for our industry. At Dome, our core values—Value Our People, Seek to Understand, Do It Right—are more than just words. They are the foundation of how we work, learn, and grow together. This summer, our interns have embodied these values through their curiosity, dedication, and drive to make a difference. From reviewing submittals and RFIs to planning layouts and setting personal goals, they have taken on real challenges and delivered real results. Along the way, they have built strong connections with mentors and teammates who are committed to helping them succeed. We even took a break to enjoy a Giants game together because at Dome, we know that building relationships is just as important as building projects. With final presentations just around the corner, we are excited to see how our interns wrap up a summer full of learning, growth, and impact. #NationalInternDay #DomeInterns #LifeAtDome #ConstructionCareers #FutureLeaders #DomeBuilds

Today marked our final (out of seven) crane pick at UCSF Mission Bay! We turned it into a family affair, with my mom and Joe’s wife and daughter getting to see us in action. We’ve had a great team out here and are celebrating much success at Byers and Rock Hall with work on six air handlers.

  • Five years after creating my “temporary” home office in what we affectionately call our dungeon; it is finally time to make it more… “permanent”. I spent the better part of the weekend clearing everything out, and the last thing to go was my Attention Management system. Others might call it a To Do List or a Task Management system.     With all the myriad demands of my time, it can be difficult to figure out where to focus my attention. I also love chasing squirrels.     For decades, I struggled with finding a system that kept everything straight - Franklin Covey Planner (yes, I'm that old), Outlook, OneNote, Moleskine Notebook, Microsoft Tasks, and even my memory. Nothing stuck. Then I discovered Kanban, the concept of To Do, Doing, Done.     If you're struggling keep everything straight and stay focused on the matter at hand, consider this…    A good attention management system has the following attributes:   1️⃣ One Place: Avoid tracking tasks in multiple places  ⏸️ Able to see the Big Picture: To see short-term and long-term needs  🔀 Easily Manipulated: Able to prioritize 3 key daily tasks  ⏩ Incorporates Flow: Tasks have a life… track it  ⏹️ Granularity: Individual tasks have a clear finish  🔁 Sustainable: Something you’ll actually maintain without fail    Given these attributes, a personal Kanban system moves a task through increasingly smaller batches:  1. Backlog: New Tasks   2. This Week - Planned: Selected Tasks to be worked on during a particular week  3. Today: Select few tasks to complete that day  4. Now: The ONLY task to work on in the moment  5. Limbo: Tasks in someone else's court  6. This Week - Completed: FULLY completed tasks that week    Additionally, I have a 'Field of Dreams,' the tasks I might one day tackle.     Each bucket is updated on a weekly and daily basis.     Probably the most important part of the system is the use of sticky notes. This allows a task to easily move through and within the stages. I have also taken to using different colors to indicate categories of tasks. For instance, pink stickies are learning related tasks, green are leadership, yellow is personal, etc.  At my desk are pads of stickies and a sharpie. The moment someone asks me to do something, it gets written and goes on the board, full stop.     One final thought, off to the left is another type of attention management tool called an Eisenhower Matrix that helps me see the forest for the trees. At a macro level, it ensures I am putting the right energy into the right things.     Does anyone have an effective system to keep their life straight? At the new UCSF Stad Center for Pediatric Pain, Palliative & Integrative Medicine, healing begins the moment you walk through the door. Designed by NBBJ Design with support from One Workplace Healthcare and built by Dome Construction, the clinic blends architecture, technology, furnishings, and integrative care practices to create a welcoming, therapeutic space for children and families. The result is a deeply human-centered environment that supports holistic treatment and nurtures both the young patients and providers. link to project: https://lnkd.in/gMT5b8ES #pediatricchronicpainclinicdesign #UCSFpediatricclinic #healingenvironmentsforchildren #integrativehealthcaredesign #NBBJ #healthcarearchitecture #pediatricclinicfurnituresolutions #multisensorytherapyspaces #DomeConstruction #UCSFhealthproject #childcenteredhealthcaredesign #calmingenvironmentsforkids #healthcareinteriordesign #NorthernCalifornia,= #traumainformeddesign #pediatrichealingarchitecture
