This page contains IGN's walkthrough for the side quest Without a Trace from The Witcher 3's first DLC expansion, Hearts of Stone.

To activate this quest, you need to grab the notice from the notice board in Brunwich. Select the quest and head to the herbalist’s house that you met during the main quest, “Open Sesame!”

The herbalist sent his apprentice out to collect herbs, but he hasn’t returned. Learn what you can from the halfling, and ride Roach to the forest. When you arrive in the area marked on your map, use your Witcher Senses to find the apprentice’s cart. Follow the trail of blood with your Witcher Senses to a nearby village. Chat with the only couple living there. At the end of the chat, you may end the quest now by heading back to the herbalist.

If something seemed off about the couple, you may investigate further by walking around the left of their house and toward the back. Activate your Witcher Senses and follow a scent. Break down some crates by using Aard. Investigate the room below, then come back to question the couple again. Claim you do not believe the cannibal couple and fight them. It’s a rather easy fight, so take the key from their corpses and investigate their house. After looting their home, report back to the herbalist to complete the quest.
