Contract: Woodland Beast is a Side Quest in Velen.
Woodland Beast Walkthrough
It is right on the border of Velen and Novigrad, when you complete the quest, you will get a Letter of Safe Conduct, which allows you to cross in the Novigrad without a hitch. Head to the border post to unlock this side quest.
A commander fills you in that military convoys keep being destroyed en route. Hop on Roach and ride off to investigate. When you arrive at the scene, ignore the toppled carts and dead bodies to fight off a couple of Alghouls that came to feed.
With the beasts killed, use your Witcher Senses to piece together what happened. Inspect the open crates, the bodies, and blood. Follow the tracks that appear to find the culprit. Not a monster, but a rebel unit for the Scoia’tael.
You have two options for interacting with the elf. You may…
Fight them -
If you don’t hand over your weapons, you have to fight the unit. Take a Squirrel Tail from their bodies and report back to the commander for your reward and letter.
See their commander -
Ask to see their commander and you will meet her. She insists they will stop attacking them. You can promise to lie to the commander, although he won’t give you the reward and letter. If you tell the elves you will lie for them, they give you elvish gifts. You could also double-cross the elves if you wish, but that decision may bite you later on.

When you leave the elves and return the to commander the quest will conclude.
