Problem/Motivation

Prepare the first 9.x alpha release. Version references in packaged code and deployment templates currently use 9.x-dev.

Proposed resolution

Update those references to 9.0.0-alpha1. After review and merge, tag the release commit and publish the alpha using the project release process. Restore development references in a follow-up change.

Cloud Dashboard remains unavailable on Drupal 12 until its Simple OAuth and Consumers dependencies support that version.

Remaining tasks

  • Validate the version changes and CI.
  • Review and merge the release MR.
  • Verify the release commit, tag, package, and release page.

MR!2402 prepares the 9.0.0-alpha1 version updates, including library and deployment-template references. Pipeline 1025964 passed Composer, coding standards, PHPStan, and all PHPUnit shards for Drupal 11.4 and Drupal 12 development.

Cloud Dashboard is excluded from Drupal 12 pending compatible Simple OAuth and Consumers releases. For a stable-minimum-stability Composer project, allow the prerelease themes explicitly: composer require 'drupal/cloud:^9@alpha' 'drupal/rigel:^9@alpha' 'drupal/bootstrap5:^5@beta'.

Known limitation: the existing Cloud Cluster Cloud Orchestrator template generates invalid YAML when a nonempty GitHub OAuth token is supplied. Deployments using this Cloud Cluster template with a GitHub OAuth token are unsupported in this alpha; the token-enabled path needs a separate fix.
