I am writing to provide feedback on the current user verification and 2FA process. Based on an email I received from Deviant´s support team on Mon, Oct 19, stated that "we take every measure to secure our users and account information." While I appreciate the dedication to security, I feel that the current "one-size-fits-all" approach to 2FA is creating a significant barrier to entry for legitimate page owners, effectively blocking us out in your quest for security. I would like to propose an alternative security method that balances robust security with user accessibility, a method successfully used by financial institutions. I have attached an image showing how my bank handles security. Their process is streamlined and user-friendly: Initial Challenge: Upon the first login, or when a change is detected, users pass a standard "I am not a robot" or human verification check. Device Identification: After verification, the system asks if the user would like to establish the current computer as their permanent, "remembered" device. Streamlined Access: Once established, this computer is IDed, allowing the owner to bypass subsequent challenges. The same protective challenge is re-issued only if a login attempt is made from a different, unrecognized device. This method successfully IDs the user and their specific machine, offering a sophisticated level of protection without the repetitive 2FA headache that many of your long-standing members are currently facing. It secures the account from unauthorized, new-device logins while allowing legitimate owners easy access to their established workflows. By adopting a similar method that includes device-specific remembering, you would significantly improve the user experience, reduce friction for your site members, and likely reduce the support volume for your staff related to locked accounts.
