Inter Island Ferry Service - Gateway to the isles
Shetland Islands Council runs a network of inter-island ferries that makes it quick and easy to travel to and from the isles, with or without a vehicle and all for very reasonable fares. New ships and terminals on many routes have made it even more convenient to get around. With 190 sailings per day, it is just like hopping on a bus!

Our fleet comprises 12 ferries providing lifeline services between Mainland Shetland and the islands. The services run from 16 terminals serving 8 islands underpinning their economic and social vibrancy. The ships make over 70,000 crossings each year and carry over 750,000 passengers and over 350,000 vehicles.

Ro/ro and passenger services operate to Skerries and Papa Stour with a freight and passenger service to Fair Isle. We operate between 3 to 28 return sailings per week to these three isles - all passengers and vehicles must be booked on these routes |
