Melinda Lee Ferguson shared thisToday is International Women’s Day, and this year’s theme “Give to Gain” really resonates with me. When I think about the women who have shaped my life and career in technology, the common thread is generosity. Women who opened doors. Women who took time to share advice. Women who offered perspective in tough moments. Women who encouraged me when I needed a little confidence. Women who provided critical feedback that made me better. Women who celebrated my wins and helped me turn my setbacks into learning. What started as professional connections (early on often from being the only two women in the room!) many times became something much more meaningful: mentorship, partnership, support, and lifelong friendship. That’s the power of Give to Gain. When women support one another, sharing knowledge, opportunity, encouragement, and belief, it creates a multiplier effect. What one person gives doesn’t stop there. It spreads through networks, careers, and generations of leaders. So many journeys are shaped by people who give their time, insight, and encouragement along the way, and by those who pay it forward for others. The impact compounds and extends far beyond any one moment or career. Progress is strongest when people show up for one another across teams, roles, and perspectives. Frontier AI has compressed attack timelines from weeks to minutes. For defenders to fight back, they need to operate at machine speed. Through our Frontier AI Defense service, we’re expanding our agreement with Anthropic to make Mythos 5 available outside the Project Glasswing partners. Alongside OpenAI’s GPT-5.6-Cyber, it powers our multi-model harness, allowing us to route tasks dynamically to the model best suited for the job. First, I had the privilege of interviewing an impressive set of Palo Alto Networks leaders about the challenges they’ve tackled and how they overcame setbacks to become the leaders they are today. Each shared a piece of wisdom that I will carry with me: - May Wang, PhD relayed an incredible story about her aunt, who pioneered computing in China and showed May that girls can be REALLY good at math and science. May reminded us of the importance of showing gratitude. - Wendi Whitmore spoke about her career transition from the Air Force to threat intelligence. While she had not yet built the industry expertise that she is now known for, she earned a promotion by motivating others to do tough jobs. - Leah Williams talked about setting transparent boundaries as a leader. Telling your teams that you are going to an important game for your child gives them permission to prioritize family obligations. Next, Karen Goodman and Jas Sood turned the tables and interviewed me about the challenges facing modern CIOs and how best to partner with us. My advice is simple: - Be a problem-solver. - Do your research, but keep an open mind and come to the meeting ready to learn. - Focus on the outcomes CIOs are trying to achieve. How can you eliminate friction and help them move faster? If you do all this, you can earn a spot as a strategic partner. A big thank you to these impressive women, and to Michelle Z., Naureen Swanson, BJ Jenkins, Daniel Campbell and the Palo Alto Networks team for bringing us together!
