Eugene Tsyrklevich shared thisI always say I have 3 children—2 biological and Parkopedia. All 3 require a tremendous amount of love, money, and patience! Today, after starting the company in 2007—18 years ago!—I’m proud to say that Parkopedia is the first to graduate into the adult world after being acquired by EasyPark Group. Like any parent, I feel a mix of emotions—pride, optimism, and yes, a tinge of sadness. We miss our kids when we were the center of their world. Turns out, it’s the same with businesses. If you had told me in 2007 that I’d still be in the parking industry 18 years later, I would have cried (not all tears of joy!). Yet, here we are—on track to help drivers find and pay for parking (and now EV!) anywhere in the world, just as we originally envisioned. AI might be the shiny new thing today, but Parkopedia has been using machine learning and computer vision for 12+ years to create cutting-edge parking availability solutions. We’ve built seamless in-car payments that actually make paying easy (a rare feat). And yes, we even built a self-parking car—turns out, robots park better than humans! None of this happened overnight. We bootstrapped for 5 years (including plugging a payroll gap at a critical juncture with the proceeds from the sale of my family home), brought in BMW iVentures as our first investor and worked with them for a decade, had a partial exit to private equity 3 years ago, and now a full acquisition by a strategic buyer. So, yeah… it only took 18 years to become an “overnight success.” But none of this success would be possible without brilliant people: Anthony—Parkopedia idea co-creator Christina, Paul, Stefano—the original vision executors Hans—without whom none of this would be possible Daniil and Vova—who turned our Moldova operations into a competitive advantage Brian, Duncan, Gary, Bert—who scaled Parkopedia. And to the hundreds of Parkopedians across 12 countries—your names may not all fit in this post, but you have my deepest gratitude. I’ve given my heart and soul to Parkopedia, and I hope you’ve felt that passion. A huge thank you to our customers who believed in us and for whom we worked tirelessly. Parkopedia succeeded because of our obsession with serving you, and that won’t change. We will continue acting as a neutral market aggregator working with all the industry players. You’ll still get the same attention and care—just with more resources behind us. To quote Winston Churchill, “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” So, what’s next? I’m thrilled to be joining EasyPark + Flowbird under Cameron Clayton's leadership as the General Manager of Automotive & Data business unit. I look forward to working with 3,000+ new colleagues as we continue shaping the industries we serve and—most importantly—making cities more livable. And with that… my first child is all grown up. Eugene Tsyrklevich shared this1,500 miles later, our convoy of 11 cars (though sadly, one had to be left behind in Germany after breaking down) has safely arrived in Ukraine. Since my last drive a year ago, the military cemetery has grown significantly—a somber reminder of the ongoing hardships faced by the Ukrainian people. Their resilience is inspiring, but their need for support remains urgent. To make a difference, I’ll personally match all donations made through the link in the comments. Eugene Tsyrklevich shared thisIn two weeks, I’ll be setting off on another 2000 kilometer drive across six countries, delivering vehicles, ambulances and medical aid from the UK to Ukraine. These cars will play a critical role in supporting Combat Medics, the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and frontline evacuations. As the war in Ukraine approaches its fourth year(!), the need for aid remains urgent, even if it no longer dominates the news. The resilience of the Ukrainian people is incredible, but they still need our help. I’ve launched a fundraiser to support this mission and will personally match every donation. Neither of us knew then that I would become Prime Minister a few months later. But some promises are meant to be kept. The 6.5 km race took us from Asia to Europe - symbolically, in the same direction Moldova is heading. He was faster than me, and few things make a parent happier than seeing their child overtake them. Back to Chișinău re-energized. A lot of work awaits us at home.

Throughout the summer months EasyPark has always been among the top apps in Italy. This huge success hasn’t come by chance; it is the direct consequence of the whole Arrive team’s effort, playing together to increase Easypark’s adoption. I handle most of the communication with Ukrainian military units, medics, combat medics, and people conducting evacuations from the combat zone. When we started, we were simply a group of proactive young people who wanted to help individual people. But today, Driving Ukraine has grown into a fully-fledged institution that entire Ukrainian units rely on and count on. And for me, it is an absolute source of pride that we have managed to build something that has had an impact on specific parts of the Ukrainian front. Something that proves every single day that people can make a real difference. Something that has helped hundreds of young Ukrainian men come home alive. And, to be honest, we never expected this. But people simply do not want to stand on the sidelines and watch what is happening in Ukraine. They want to have a personal impact on what is happening so strongly that Driving Ukraine has grown into a fully-fledged institution. And now we have reached the point where we want to bring people together around a common goal: building a community of people who care. People who have already made a difference and want to continue making a difference. Obviously, a £1bn portfolio is no big deal. SpaceX burns £1bn every 15 days. The oil & gas industry deploys £1bn on upstream capex every 21 hours. An Anthropic dinnerlady can get a £1bn valuation with nothing but slides and a sock puppet. Rather, the coolest parts are that: a) In total, over 10 years, our syndicate has invested less than £10m, despite the being the first cheque and lead investor in 97% of the rounds we've been a part of. In other words, the success of our portfolio is dependent on follow-on investment from investors like Sequoia Capital, Breakthrough Energy, Lowercarbon Capital, SCVC, Empirical Ventures, Unruly Capital and Kadmos Capital enabling them to scale. b) DSV's portfolio is not 5% cancer treatments and 95% crypto payday loan subscriptions for genAI dopamine farming apps (though I do think this could be the next big thing). We got here by creating companies targeting a thriving future where humanity and the planet can thrive. This has only been possible because of the trust and belief of a group of incredible, aligned partners like The Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, Cancer Research Horizons, Parkinson's UK, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Children's Tumour Foundation, Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA), Renaissance Philanthropy, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Anglo American, Valterra Platinum, Net Zero Technology Centre, AbbVie, General Inception, CRUSA, The University of Edinburgh, Roslin Innovation Centre, ROSLIN FOUNDATION and Quadrature Climate Foundation. c) 80% of our portfolio is still going, 10 years in and I can't think of an example of a DSV portfolio company that has pivoted. This is due to the sheer determination of the founders in residence we have the massive fortune to work with, as well as the insane levels attention to detail of the DSV team pioneering and applying ‘Scoping’, our outcome-centric approach to designing new companies Along the way, we co-founded Mark1 with RMI, became an accredited College and created the Venture Science Doctorate, with Innovate UK, Schmidt Futures and SPRIND - Bundesagentur für Sprunginnovationen (3,000 applications from 112 countries) and partnered with 40+ global leading university labs. We've focused on increasing depth of support and economies of scope rather than economies of scale: we produce no more than 10 companies per year and have focused on growing the resourcing for each of those companies - 5x more funding and 6x more time per team than when we started. I cannot tell you the number of times people have told us that DSV would not be successful; it’s the nature of these things that I wondered the same thing myself 10x more times than that. But until we save a human life, sequester a gigatonne of carbon, eliminate a toxic chemical: I promise to keep asking myself that question.

Lawrence of Arabia ran armoured Silver Ghosts across the desert and called them more valuable than rubies. Dorothy carried no guns. She's named after the woman who navigated her across the world at 94 and won a Guinness World Record doing it. The reaction was better than we expected, see the video in the comments... People kept asking to sit in her. Several said the same thing in different words: that someone had bothered to bring something like this meant they hadn't been forgotten in a tragic, avoidable war. A symbol of defiance. This convoy raised more than any of the 60+ that came before it. I've done three. Each has been a highlight of that year. You can join one yourself, or donate. The quantum technology sector is maturing, and teams are becoming more sophisticated and specialised. One of the big challenges that I think plagues the field, and more widely deep tech, is how we 'get through' to our audiences. Today, we speak externally to largely different audiences that sit on opposite ends of a spectrum - from decision-makers and investors that want to grasp the impact of the technology, to practitioners with PhDs that want to know the exact specs of our products. We only 'get through' to those audiences if we can understand the level and kind of detail they care about, and if we can tailor our message to them. This approach requires us to become an extension of their brain - leading with empathy and understanding of their priorities, not downloading all the details we have in our head and hoping they will land. Ultimately spending a lot of time listening to our audience is what we need to talk to them in a way that resonates. I've talked to all the different audiences in the quantum ecosystem for the past decade - and I watched people talking to different audiences - and I think way too often we miss the mark, we think we are communicating, but what we're saying isn't sticking, isn't making it through. It isn't straightforward to learn how to do this - those that come from academia are trained to speak technically to technical peers only - those that don't have a technical background struggle with conveying the right message and lack technical depth when needed. The UK’s EIS and SEIS schemes have powered thousands of startups over the past decade, including CROSSIP, the startup I co-founded. But while founders and investors have moved fast, the system hasn’t. 🐢 The investment limits for these schemes, along with the VCT programme, haven’t changed in nearly ten years. Inflation has eroded their real impact, reducing the capital available to the next generation of innovative companies trying to fund R&D, hire teams, and scale from seed to Series A. This isn’t about tax breaks. It’s about keeping the UK’s startup funding pipeline fit for purpose, and maintaining our position as a global hub for innovation. Very excited to share that Plural is leading a $60 million Series A in CoMind, the startup building breakthrough optical sensing technology to revolutionise brain monitoring and treatment. For decades, doctors treating critically ill patients have been forced to compromise when monitoring the brain. Today's approaches use risky, expensive, highly invasive procedures that require drilling a hole into a patient's skull, or rely on inaccurate non-invasive monitoring that can compromise treatment decisions. To take just one example of why this matters, in the US alone 3 million patients suffer traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) every year, but only 5% receive an intracranial pressure test, which requires drilling a hole in the skull and carries a 15% complication rate. The rest are treated with limited information, leading to worse data, worse outcomes and higher costs. London-based CoMind is changing that. Its optical neuromonitoring platform can non-invasively measure three core brain health indicators - cerebral blood flow, autoregulation and intracranial pressure - something that has never been done before. It’s a breakthrough that could help tens of millions of patients worldwide and redefine how we understand and treat the brain. The company is led by a true outlier of a young founder, James Dacombe. He started programming when he was 13 and founded CoMind when he was just 17. His work ethic and rapid learning rate have led him to build a working product and take it through two successful clinical research studies, with the help of a stellar leadership team of medical and industry veterans from the likes of Medtronic, Tufts Medical Center and UCL. This is only the beginning. CoMind plans to expand its product portfolio to measure additional physiological parameters and develop CoVision, an AI platform that transforms sensor data into predictive insights, identifying complications early and personalising treatment. The company aims to gain regulatory approval within two years, unlocking access to the huge ICU market in the US. And while this first sensor can revolutionise TBI monitoring, a second device is already in development to measure more parameters and treat more brain conditions. This technology has the potential to dramatically improve how we monitor our brains, giving doctors better information and more choices for treating patients, while building out a whole new market by providing a far more affordable and safe alternative to existing solutions.
