Checkmate, Chaos ♟️ That was the theme of this year’s IQPC Corporate Counsel & Compliance Exchange USA- and after two days of conversations, it’s clear why. Across every discussion, one thing stood out: legal teams are under increasing pressure to do more with greater confidence. Whether it was AI governance, regulatory complexity or proving legal’s strategic value, the conversation has shifted from whether to adopt AI to how to do it responsibly and at scale. That was also the focus of our roundtable, "From Moves to Strategy: Driving Business Value Through Legal Innovation," led by Rory McDaid and Josh Blechner. We explored how legal leaders can move beyond AI experimentation to drive measurable business value through smarter technology adoption. Had an interesting conversation with Andrew Hill at the Financial Times about one of the questions I get asked most: will AI reduce opportunities for young people starting their careers? I think that's the wrong question. The real question is how AI changes what early careers should look like. Rather than eliminating junior roles, it has the potential to make them far more valuable. Used well, AI can help junior employees learn faster by making institutional knowledge more accessible, while giving senior people more time to mentor and focus on work that requires human judgement. Hiring certainly hasn't slowed at Luminance. If anything, seeing talented young people equipped with the right AI tools has reinforced how quickly they can contribute and grow. AI shouldn't replace early-career talent, it should help develop and elevate it.
