I meet with more CFOs than I used to. A customer asked McDonald's support chatbot for a burger. The bot happily wrote them a Python script to reverse a linked list instead. Harmless here. Funny, even. But zoom out: this is what happens when a conversational AI has no boundary enforcing what it's actually allowed to do. No policy stopped it from answering an off-topic coding question. No guardrail caught that the request had nothing to do with food, orders, or support at all. Now imagine the same lack of boundary on an internal AI agent with access to your CRM, your ERP, or your customer data. "Helpful" stops being cute and starts being a liability. This is exactly why an AI Gateway matters.
