Do you know a piece of media that is deeply misogynistic and want to see it fight similar media?

  • Be it a book, tv show, movie, comic, or anything else, have you ever encountered something and been like, “Wow, the misogyny is really jumping out here”? Whether it’s sidelining female characters and downplaying their abilities, objectification, sexualization, transmisogyny, misogynoir, fridging, gratuitous sexual violence, women walking boobily down the stairs, or anything else, sometimes the contents of a work are just dripping with misogyny and you’re like, “No, stop it! Bad creator, bad! Treat your ladies better!”

And now is your opportunity to see these works fight each other! It’s time to go to bat for the ladies who deserved better and decide what is the #1 work we should point to and go, “That. Don’t do that. Like anything in that.”

Submit the work you want to beat with a bat labeled “Respect Women” here! The form closes December 13, 2023 at 12am EST.

NOTE: You can submit a work and add additional propaganda later when you have more time under the condition that you add “(repeat)” after the title of the work you’re submitting.

You can view how many times a work has been submitted here, if it has propaganda, and how much propaganda it has here.

NOTE: This is updated manually, not automatically, so there will be a time delay in updating the count.

EDIT: I previously forgot to actually open the form, but it is now open!

    RULES:

    • The misogyny must be in canon, not fandom
    • Don’t submit a single work multiple times, but please submit as many different works as you want!
    • No terfs or other bigotry
    • No real people, real groups, or Harry Potter

  • The google sheet that shows if a work has been submitted now also counts the entries and how many pieces of propaganda a given work has.

You can view the google sheet here:

And if you wish to submit a work or additional propaganda, remember that the form is always here:

  • The funniest side effect of these polls is me refamiliarizing myself with the basics of python after not being able to successfully use VLOOKUP in google sheets or do enough with google sheets in general.

“Iterating through a .csv file is just easier and faster.” - me, apparently

Was really surprised that DC only had 1 submission after our showing in the last tournament but then I realized we're split into a bunch of different adaptations and properties lmao

  • I am also very shocked! Maybe there’s just so much that no one can handle going through all of it? DC fans, you can submit just info on what you’re familiar with under DC! I will select a variety from your propaganda! And, if the bracket is a reasonable size, I will do master propaganda posts to link!

Come forth, DC fans, DC has committed so many crimes!

Has anyone submitted Helluva Boss yet? Because WHEW, that show has done all their female characters HELLA dirty!!

  • They have not! You totally should! (I have not seen this show; I just advocate any and all submissions.)

This made me remember how weird I find mysogynistic media that is explicitly written by women, like wtf is ever going on with Colleen Hoover's... craft.

  • I really only know Hoover from that quote about big balls and the knowledge that she has a bad rep re: women but not any specifics. So all I can say is that, uh, she really writes words, huh?

And yeah, internalized misogyny is a hell of a drug.

HELP the 10 warrior cats submissions😭😭😭 op how does it feel to have unwillingly become a part of warriors fandom history via misogyny victims tournament

  • Have I? Well that’s weird. I expected these to be fun novelties, not, like, memorable. Also, I knew the Warrior Cats fandom loved polls going into this, but I didn’t realize it was this much. Like, damn, y'all really vote, huh?

I think the warrior cats and warriors in your submission list are the same thing, btw do you have reccomendations of like. anything that writes woman well

  • Ah, you might be right; I think I skimmed that entry’s propaganda, and it was very specific to whatever series it was about without dropping the full series name, and I was like “Maybe this is Warrior Cats? I feel lazy, I’m not going to look heavily into it.”

So, as a reminder: use the full but common name for the series! For example, Miraculous Ladybug (this seems to be the most common title despite being a shortened version), Warrior Cats, BBC Sherlock, etc. And check that you don’t have a space after the title’s entry, as that counts as a different entry than the title without the space when using the UNIQUE function in Google sheets (which is how I count the unique entries).

As for recommendations, this is hard because I watch a lot of trash, especially recently, but:

  • @applejuicewerewolf replied to your post “Can I just add this playlist to the House of Night…”:

oh, I added my tumblr url to the sheet at the second to last question, thought that was what you meant.

You got it right, actually. That is the ideal scenario, but it only works if you provided your url the first time so I can match the two, which you did, so it works perfectly!

Is there any media you didn't expect to see submitted?

  • I did not expect to see Jak and Daxter, not because I remember it writing women well, but because I forgot about it entirely and was suddenly blasted back 20+ years to playing it and being confused when it turned all edgelord in the sequels. “Get smacked in the face with PS2 action game nostalgia” was not on my To Do List for the day.

I'm not surprised to see 10 but out of curiosity, can I see all the submission reasons for warrior cats?

  • No, I limit posting submission reasons to when there is only one piece of propaganda for my own sanity and laziness. After that it gets to be a huge messy list, and, like, pass on that.
