X, formerly and commonly known as Twitter, is an American microblogging and social networking service owned by X Corp.
This social media is used by some Mojang Studios developers and workers, independent Minecraft content creators, and by official Minecraft and Mojang accounts to share and post their creations, news, and updates on Minecraft's development.
Twitter is one of the main social media where Minecraft publish teasers and announcements for the Minecraft game and its franchise.
Usage by Mojang
[edit | edit source]In the past Twitter were used as one of the main direct communication channels between the developers and the community, as some devs would tweet there updates and teasers on future updates and people could directly ask them questions about the development.
Twitter were also used by Mojang to host the Biome Chooser and the Mob Vote between 2017 and 2021 before moving it to the launcher and Minecraft.net.
Between 2020 and 2022, Xbox released custom hashtag emojis[note 1] on Twitter to advertise Minecraft LIVE and other events.[1][2][3]
Currently Mojang aside from the Minecraft related accounts, it also has several Mojang official accounts dedicated to customer support and system status.

[edit | edit source]Community Votes
[edit | edit source]In 2016, Jens Bergensten ran a poll on Twitter asking players to decide whether to name their new mob a llama or alpaca.[4] Ultimately, the llama won out.
Beginning in 2017, Community Votes would be held to determine upcoming features, such as new mobs or biomes. These would be hosted through Twitter polls up until 2022, when they were replaced by the event servers 2022 Mob Vote Event and 2023 Mob Vote Event.
Marketplace
[edit | edit source]Several releases on the Marketplace mention the Twitter platform, often promoting the accounts of the developers. These include Catastrophic Pandamonium, Minecraft: The Mountain, Grid Runners, and Minecon Live: Rush Race!
Promotions
[edit | edit source]Historically, Twitter has been one of the main places where Mojang developers and workers would share updates, teasers, and behind the scenes on game updates and drops and were in touch with the community, as people could share feedback directly to the developers or suggest new ideas for the game. Other developers such as Gamemode One have also used the platform for teasers of content, such as the Super Update and McDonald's Add-On.[5][6]
In 2026, Twitter was a part of the Minecraft Dungeons II ARG, with the @DungeonsGame account publishing several tweets containing images or videos used as clues for solving puzzles from the Minecraft Discord server.
Trivia
[edit | edit source]- A tradition occurs on a snapshot release day during the development of an update where developers would tweet a Image with a frog, indicating that a snapshot was near release.
- The official Mojang Studios account still keeps the gold checkmark from being an XBOX affiliate account despite having stopped any activity from there.
