ROTTMNT x OC Shippy Things
So many of you know I’m working on a self-indulgent Rise of the TMNT fanfic for funsies featuring my silly self-insert OC. I’ve posted a couple of drabbles which I will share here and here.
I have one “canon” ship in the story, but I have two main turtles I ship her with. I kinda want to talk about how I see their dynamics with Michan the Ragamuffin.
Leonardo and Michan
The closest fictional pairing I can compare these two’s dynamic to is Flynn “Eugene” Rider and Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled.
Like
Flynn, Leo is a wisecracking lovable trickster with a heart of gold.
Michan is bubbly, artistic, a bit naive and somewhat sheltered.
I see Leo starting out teasing her and picking on her, with her getting embarrassed and frustrated at first. However, with time he has vulnerable moments with her, and she gains the confidence to fire back at him at bit.
In general, I see Leo being the caring, funny boyfriend who helps his anxious girlfriend get out of her own head, and Michan being the supportive sweetheart he can be a bit more vulnerable with.
Donatello and Michan
I’ve given these two a LOT of thought. Buckle up, folks. It’s gonna be long.
In the case of Donnie and Michan, I had a hard time figuring out a fictional couple to compare them to, until I rewatched one of my favorite episodes of Vivziepop’s Helluva Boss today. Moxxie and Millie are honestly a good comparison to how I view Donnie and Michan’s potential relationship dynamic.
It’s not a perfect comparison. Millie is the more dominant partner in the M&M’s relationship, and let’s face it, Michan is absolutely not a dominant person.
However, like Moxxie, Donnie is at heart an easily frustrated, sensitive theater kid who primarily relies on using his wit and sklll with equipment rather than brute force in combat. Like Millie, Michan is generally a cheerful and supportive sweetheart who is friendly until you mess with her loved ones.
I see Donnie being guarded around her at first, but once Michan shows genuine interest in his tech and inventions, praises him for his creativity and appreciates his non-tech aspects (his love of dancing, musicals and fashion, etc) he’s going to soften up and be a lot more adorkable and sweet.
Meanwhile, I see Michan being a bit intimidated by his sarcasm and snarkiness at first, but after getting to know him and seeing how incredibly silly and insecure he can be, she starts not only wanting to get to know him better, but becoming someone who offers praise, feedback and support.
All in all, I see Donnie as being an overly dramatic guy who absolutely loves the cheerful girl who helps get him out of his funks, and Michan being the somewhat anxious cinnamon roll who gives him the affection and words of affirmation he’s been craving his whole life.

I do kind of want to think about what potential relationship dynamics might be like between Michan and Mikey or Raph, but I’m kind of struggling in that area.
Mikey and Michan
The best comparison I have for Mikey x Michan would probably be Aang and
Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Like Aang, Mikey is silly, caring, a
huge kid, makes dumb decisions and kind of needs someone to rein him in.
Like Katara, Michan is kind and very much a “big sister.” Also like
Aang, Mikey would need to mature a LOT in order for this relationship to
work.
Raph and Michan
I’m not 100% sure with Raph, but in a weird way I kind of see them being like Ralph and Vanellope Von Schweetz from Disney’s Wreck-It-Ralph. Of course, Ralph and Vanellope aren’t a romantic couple (she’s literally a child) but the “big strong guy who’s actually a sweetheart” and “bubbly cheerful girl who needs a big friend” dynamic is something I see them having.

That’s it for how I headcanon potential romantic relationship dynamics between Michan and the guys. I’d love to eventually make a post about her friendships with April, Sunita, ect.
