8. Saying “maybe more!” when someone very clearly states an exact number, ie, “I have $2.45 on me right now.” “maybe more!” “no, just… just $2.45”

9. dismissing a legitimate fact because the method used to confirm it is also completely legitimate: “it looks like there’s 75 copies of this book in here.” “I mean sure, if you count them.”

A população selvagem de lobos mexicanos teve mais um ano de crescimento em 2023, de acordo com os resultados da pesquisa anual publicada pelo Serviço de Pesca e Vida Selvagem dos EUA.

O censo populacional de 2023 revelou um mínimo de 257 lobos mexicanos distribuídos pelo Arizona e Novo México. Este aumento marca o oitavo ano consecutivo de crescimento populacional, a maior sequência contínua desde o início dos esforços de recuperação.

A contagem mínima da população de 2023 representa um aumento de seis por cento em relação ao mínimo de 242 lobos contados em 2022.

"No agregado, os dados de 2023 apontam que a recuperação do lobo mexicano percorreu um longo caminho desde o primeiro lançamento", disse Jim deVos, coordenador do Departamento de Lobos Mexicanos do Arizona Game and Fish.

"A cada ano, o número de lobos mexicanos aumenta e as áreas que ocupam se expandem. O manejo genético com filhotes de cativeiro também está apresentando resultados. No total, 99 filhotes cuidadosamente selecionados por seu valor genético foram colocados em 40 tocas selvagens desde 2016, e alguns desses filhotes produziram ninhadas próprias. Embora a recuperação esteja no futuro, examinar a última década de dados certamente fornece otimismo de que a recuperação será alcançada", acrescentou DeVos.

As informações sobre a população de lobos mexicanos são coletadas de novembro a fevereiro pela Equipe de Campo Interagências. Durante esse tempo, a equipe realiza levantamentos terrestres e aéreos, usando uma variedade de métodos, incluindo câmeras remotas, coleta de fezes e observação visual. Contar a população ao mesmo tempo a cada inverno permite tendências comparáveis ano a ano em uma época do ano em que a população de lobos mexicanos é mais estável.

A equipe de campo documentou sucesso adicional com esforços de fomento em 2023. Até o momento, um mínimo de 15 filhotes de lobo mexicano criados sobreviveram até a idade de reprodução, e pelo menos 10 lobos criados criaram e produziram ninhadas com sucesso na natureza. Life is short, kindness is what we’ve got.

When my mom died it wasn’t exactly unexpected but it was still sooner than we all thought it would happen. It was a huge punch in the guts and the thought of making things and not being able to show her and share them with her still hurts but in that first month it was like drowning.

So I made this for her, and shared it with and showed it to other people who are hurting, because my momma didn’t raise a quitter but she sure did raise a softhearted fool who wants everyone to feel a little more loved and a little more worthy and a little less alone.
