fix(server): a pull you start no longer fails after 30 seconds - #28672
Pull fails with "Git command timed out" when it takes more than 30 seconds, for example a large fetch over a slow link or a fast-forward that checks out many files. The server kills git pull --ff-only at 30 s, so a repository that needs longer can never be pulled from T3 Code. Push (#6499) and worktree creation (#23802) already run without a deadline for the same reason.
To reproduce: make the remote slow, for example git config remote.origin.uploadpack 'sleep 40; git-upload-pack' on a clone that is behind its upstream, then press Pull.
Change
pullCurrentBranch takes an optional timeoutMs, and the vcsPull RPC passes null, like push. The default stays 30 seconds, so the two automatic pulls (the default-branch auto-pull in VcsStatusBroadcaster, which runs under the per-repository remote status lock, and the startup auto-pull) behave exactly as before. A pull you start can still be cancelled: interrupting it kills the Git process, as before.
Scope and approval
There is no issue. This is a small fix for an obvious bug that brings the user's pull in line with push and worktree creation, and changes no automatic behavior.
Verification
vp test run apps/server/src/vcs/GitVcsDriverCore.test.ts: the new case runs a real git pull that starts after 31 seconds of test-clock time. It fails on main with "Git command timed out." and passes with the fix. All 217 tests pass.
vp run check:changed 8760d063e903406c8e8f695b0852c0a15fc1e00f: format, lint, knip, typecheck (3 packages) and tests (5 files) pass.
Real clients against an isolated dev server at main and at this branch, with a synthetic clean repository one commit behind a local remote whose uploadpack sleeps 40 seconds:
Web before (main): Pull fails with "Git command timed out." (local path redacted).
Web after: the same pull is still running at 32 seconds.
Web after: it then completes and main is updated from origin/main.
Linux desktop before (main): Pull fails with "Git command timed out." (local path redacted).
Linux desktop after: the same pull is still running at 37 seconds.
Linux desktop after: a repeat of the same pull completes and main is updated from origin/main.
iOS simulator before (main): the same pull ends in a Git action failure banner.
iOS simulator after: the same pull reports "Pulled latest on main".
Android emulator before (main): the pull fails and main is still 1 behind.
Android emulator after: after the same pull, main is clean and no longer behind.
Not checked: macOS and Windows desktop builds were not run; the Linux desktop app was. Mobile banners truncate the error text. Cancelling a pull mid-flight was not exercised in the app; the code path is unchanged (interrupting the request kills Git). The automatic pulls were not exercised; their code path is unchanged.
Prior PRs
#6499 by Dev Talan removed the deadline from push, and #23802 by Julius Marminge removed it from worktree creation; this PR follows both. Open #26568 and #26601 by Julius Marminge change the status fetch and SIGTERM handling in the same driver, not the pull's deadline.

The user's pull now runs as long as Git needs, like push and worktree add.
Automatic pulls keep the 30 second limit.

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — User-initiated pulls now run without the previous 30-second deadline, while other callers retain it. Human review is required to accept this default behavior change, including stalled pulls continuing without that deadline.

Summary
Driver timeout options and validation apps/server/src/vcs/GitVcsDriver.ts, apps/server/src/vcs/GitVcsDriverCore.ts, apps/server/src/vcs/GitVcsDriverCore.test.ts
pullCurrentBranch accepts an optional timeoutMs, which defaults to DEFAULT_TIMEOUT_MS. The pull command uses that value. A test verifies that a pull with timeoutMs: null completes after a 31-second delay and leaves HEAD at the remote commit.
Workflow and WebSocket forwarding apps/server/src/git/GitWorkflowService.ts, apps/server/src/ws.ts
The workflow adopts the driver service signature and forwards pull options. The WebSocket pull call passes timeoutMs: null; its success path still refreshes Git status.
User-started pulls can now run without a deadline, which fixes the 30-second failures. They also no longer count against the shared limit of eight concurrent Git processes. Several slow pulls could therefore pile up, although this takes repeated user actions and matches how push already behaves. This is low risk, and bounding pulls with their own limit would be a reasonable follow-up.

With timeoutMs: null, execute skips the gitProcesses permit. Before this change, pulls ran under that gate and held one of its eight permits. Now a user-started pull runs outside the limit, so several pulls against slow remotes can run as concurrent Git processes. No handler-level limit on vcs.pull is visible.
Push already uses timeoutMs: null and bypasses the gate. This change extends that bypass to pulls. Each pull still requires a user action, so the impact is limited.
Use a dedicated semaphore for pulls. This keeps pulls bounded and prevents them from holding the shared permits used by short Git commands. Choose the permit count and how execute selects that semaphore when implementing.
