Create a template or script for initial mentor-student meetings #99

Description

@varlese

To help set expectations for the program, it would be useful to have a script and/or talking points for mentors to refer to when meeting their mentees for the first time. This should include information like general expectations for the program, understanding student motivations and interests, and guidance on students' next steps.

Having talking points can help to make sure that all students are receiving consistent guidance, especially at the beginning of the program. This also helps support mentors in these early conversations by giving a checklist of what to cover.

Some initial ideas:

  • Learning more about the student's career goals and reasons for joining the program
  • Understanding the student's previous experience with WordPress (helps to provide guidance on the WordPress courses)
  • Discussing a general timeline for the program - especially for participants with a clear deadline - to ensure consistent progress
  • Review the student course on Learn WordPress and how to track hours, including what counts as trackable hours
  • Introduction to Slack, including asking students to introduce themselves in the #wpcredits Slack channel
