Comparisons between languages

[edit source]

Hi @Bearian Thanks for supporting my PROD of Comparison between Esperanto and Interlingua. I have since found a bunch more of these articles comparing constructed languages. Some have no references, such as: Comparison between Ido and Interlingua Most have tags from 10+ years ago. A couple are referenced, such as Comparison between Esperanto and Ido, but the references seem to be mainly in Esperanto, so I can't check them. I presume each language will have its own references, but comparisons between them are likely to be OR. Just seeking advice about if I should continue to PROD them, or should I take to AfD? Blackballnz (talk) 04:07, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Prod is fine. It’s easier, and unlikely to be challenged by regular editors, but still gives the creators time to object. Please do it fairly by informing both the Project and Creator. Bearian (talk) 23:43, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contributions to 1960 in the environment. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing as a live article at this time because it has no sources. I have converted it to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Hi! I saw that you are active on the Wiki project in law and wanted to ask if you could take a look at the article I have been advocating to approve: Draft:Winston Weinberg

It is absurd to me, coming from a journalism background, that high-profile sources from reputable media are being so blandly overviewed. There have also been suggestions to merge the article, which does not make any sense, as it is inconsistent with Wikipedia’s practices for articles about company founders. The subject is the founder of the biggest legal tech company in the world, and he has been widely recognized in legacy media. I also added 2 books as sources.

It is counterproductive and ignorant to expect industry professionals to have media coverage about anything other than their professional background, and there are no Wikipedia policies that require this. There are 23 sources in total in the article, as they all support different information, and I do not want to delete them since they actually cite verifiable facts. WestwoodHights573 (talk) 06:48, 6 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

It's under review by another editor, so I'm hesitant to get involved. Bearian (talk) 12:15, 6 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is okay if someone from the domain participates too. We are having a discussion on his page and I was just explaining what USC law school was. User talk:SmokeyJoe#c-SmokeyJoe-20260106084700-WestwoodHights573-20260106074900 WestwoodHights573 (talk) 19:52, 6 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Bearian! smokeyjoe told me that they do not have the time to review the article. We have established 2 more suitable sources for the GNG on their talk page, with the last source I discussed being the Observer, that needs to be reviewed. It's here, User talk:SmokeyJoe#draft, and the main discussion is here. Draft talk:Winston Weinberg
It says that you have a law degree and I think you are the best person to ask to take a look at it. For instance, an admin outside of the legal fields, has questions like "how does x know he was a promising lawyer?", etc. I think it would be more productive if someone that knows more about the industry looks into it. This is the page about the founder of the biggest legal tech Harvey. Would you like to review the Observer and other sources we discussed for the GNG? Thanks in advance for your time! Deletion review for Craig Wilde

[edit source]

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Craig Wilde. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Nilton72 (talk) 16:41, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

“Requesting review of the deletion of ‘Craig Wilde’, which existed for over 14 years. The subject has substantial independent coverage in reliable secondary sources. The article’s longevity indicates established notability; concerns appear to relate to sourcing/tone rather than eligibility. The page may have required edits to bring it to a standard - rather than deletion." Nilton72 (talk) 16:46, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Nilton72, I can't find any link to that request. Bearian (talk) 17:19, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
There was a discussion, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Craig Wilde, which closed over a month ago. In no system of justice is there more than 30 days to appeal. Based upon my comments, no, I won't go along with any such appeal. As I indicated in the link I provided, this is literally a case of us versus him: if we allow pages created for profit, then our charitable status will be eliminated, crippling our organization and thus destroying the entire Wikipedia ecosystem. So, absolutely hard no. Go away. Bearian (talk) 18:59, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Fritz Haake

[edit source]

FYI
Professor (Full Professor): In 1973, he was appointed full professor of theoretical physics at the then newly established University of Essen. Professor Emeritus & Senior Professor: From 2006 onward, he was professor emeritus, and from 2010 he held the title of senior professor. Academic Degrees: He earned his Dipl. Phys. (Diplom-Physiker, equivalent to a Master's in Physics) in 1965 and received his doctorate (Dr. rer. nat., PhD) in 1968. In 1972, he completed his Habilitation, the highest academic qualification in Germany (qualifying him for a full professorship). Visiting Professor: He served as a visiting professor (or guest professor) at prestigious institutions such as Harvard University, Cornell University, and the École normale supérieure. Author of: Quantum Signatures of Chaos. Johnwilliamsiii (talk) 11:51, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I frankly have no idea of what you are referring to, how I'm supposed to be involved, or what to do. Bearian (talk) 21:05, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still not sure what you're getting at. Did you read Ralph Alpher's scathing reviews of my papers that he rejected for publication? Are you annoyed by my tagging Maciej Lewenstein for needing more citations? Do you want me to (re-)create an article about Fritz Haake? Do you want to meet with me and discuss physics? IvyWise

[edit source]

Hi Bearian. You added a {{Notability}} template to IvyWise back in August 2025 to go along with the {{COI}} template that had previously been added by someone else back in 2010. Both of those tags were removed by a new SPA account (who might be connected to IvyWise) who recently has been expanding the article. I'm wondering whether you'd might take a look at the article and assess it again. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:59, 15 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Bearian (talk) 05:28, 15 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have time to edit it right now, but I tagged it for copy editing and COI. Bearian (talk) 05:32, 15 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Took note, watched and almost blacked the page. I strongly suspect the page to have no place on Wikipedia whatsoever.
Some of the recent mentioning of this firm in reliable sources I can find are all at least one year old, and only mention the subject in a passing sentence. 2019, Vox: [1]; 2021, NYT: [2] 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk iris 11p, edited 11:03p 15:00, 15 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Redirecting geographic stubs

[edit source]

I'm not sure that I'm convinced of the usefulness of this. You've redirected Aetna, Sharp County, Arkansas to Cave City, Arkansas; these are about 6 miles away from each other. Aetna is not mentioned at the Cave City article and likely never will be, as it's not the same subject. According to Google Maps, Harmony, Wyoming is a good 15-20 miles away from Laramie - these are clearly separate communities. Harmony's article mentioned Laramie as where the students where shipped off to high school, but that's because the local school district covers the entire county and according to our article only operates three high schools. These communities have no real connection to where they're being redirected other than being kinda close, and what readers are left with are confusing, unhelpful redirects that point to places that make no mention of the redirect subject. I think this outcome is worse than a redlink. Hog Farm Talk 01:18, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Harmony literally shares a ZIP code, high school, Roman Catholic parish, WalMart, and county with Laramie, where my sister lives; everything is spread out in Wyoming. Same with all the other redirects that I've done. I *always* do several BEFORE searches before redirecting, including looking for city/county boundaries, post offices, amenities, and driving directions. Aetna is in the same ZIP code and county as Cave City. I haven't redirected all the communities I've seen, because some of them don't have a good enough redirect target. I do keep in mind that our core readership will be looking for, for example, South Succotash, which I might redirect to Micropolitan City. You're free to take any of them to AfD. I'm rarely 100% convinced that anything I do is right. Bearian (talk) 02:02, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Bearian, I hope you're doing well, I want to report this incident to you, as you are currently active in AFDs.

I apologise if I am doing it the wrong way, but hopefully you can handle this.

Happy editing! Zuck28 (talk) 14:29, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Currently on this article there is a possible COI & UPE/Sock activity is going on. The article was recently deleted at an Afd. I tagged it for speedy but the problematic editor removed it. Zuck28 (talk) 14:32, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Zuck28. It's not the worst I've seen recently. I'm not going to nominate it for deletion, feel free to do so. Bearian (talk) 14:35, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Done! Thank you Zuck28 (talk) 14:54, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Can I suggest checking on PRODs. As one examples Andrew Honeycutt was a clear target for a pileon of PRODs from a team of IPs who were perhaps the same person. As president of a for-profit university (from BEFORE) there is enough of a notability claim for AfD. Ldm1954 (talk) 15:31, 2 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Ldm1954, I check both WP:AfD and CAT:PROD most days, unless caretaking takes me away from WiFi. Depending on the article, I second it, deprod it, find sources, or just move on.
I got flamed on my talk page this weekend (see above) for redirecting prodded articles. Back in October 2025 (see above) I tried to fix a backlog of Prods by temporarily removing the tags, but likewise I was flamed by several users. I'm close to giving up on the whole thing.
As far as the specific case, it's safe for now. If you want to resolve the issue, you can take it preemptively to AfD. I did that recently with a law stub, but I don't want to be accused of canvassing. Bearian (talk) 16:50, 2 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I think the immediate issue of minimum, poor sourcing has been resolved. I seconded it because it was a poorly sourced BLP. Powerful interests from Texas, Palm Beach, and New Delhi want to use badly sourced BLPs as an excuse to destroy us. Bearian (talk) 17:04, 2 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Bearian, I get flamed by assorted people. Some of these are experienced but less than polite editors, some have been socks etc. I normally consider this a sign that I am doing a decent job of NPP/monitoring.
Politics at the moment is a mess; I am alternately encouraged and depressed about what is going on in Minnesota, more could be said. Ldm1954 (talk) 17:08, 2 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

In your edit summary on Aithal you say In ordinary times, not a big problem, but nowadays, this is a legal risk. What makes these non-ordinary times? I'm just curious, no agenda, just saw the prod notice at WP Anthroponymy. Thanks. PamD 10:10, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

These are not ordinary times because powerful people from Palm Beach to Boca Chica and New Delhi want to use poorly sourced BLPs as an excuse to take away the WMF's charitable status, PamD. Bearian (talk) 15:40, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, an interesting read, and I see your point. There's also the worry of the UK Online Safety Act, which threatens to throw the baby of Wikipedia out with the putrid bathwater. I also worry about the number of 15-year-old articles which are plain out-of-date, with online sources no longer available and unarchived, and just facts which have changed: people die, villages gain or lose facilities, authors write more books, etc. PamD 16:15, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Those are longer-term issues, agreed, PamD. Bearian (talk) 17:02, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Corkscrew with Bayerncurve

[edit source]

I undid your redirect of Corkscrew with Bayerncurve to Bayern Kurve. The names may look and sound similar, but they are completely different rides, which you should have been able to ascertain simply by reading the articles. A Bayern Kurve is a flat ride manufactured by Anton Schwarzkopf. A Corkscrew with Bayerncurve is a roller coaster manufactured by Vekoma. There were several installations of each of these types of rides in multiple parks. They are not remotely similar to one another.JlACEer (talk) 03:10, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

What to do about a brand new editor adding what looks like OR to articles

[[3]] They are assuming incorrectly that all Icelanders were Norse, which is not the case. See Special:Diff/1337901067 where they change many instances of "Norse" to "Norse Icelanders". Thanks. Doug Weller talk 10:11, 14 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Doug Weller, Gently remind them as such: "After 25 years, everybody knows that we have never published original research or anything close to it as synthesis. There is no scholarship that we know of says Icelandic, so it's new content. There are lots of other places on the Internet where you can post your ideas, but you're not allowed to share it here. It violates what we do, and powerful interests (Trump, Musk, Modi, etc.) want to use your violation as an excuse to shut us down." Bearian (talk) 14:41, 14 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
You think I should post that? Doug Weller talk 15:47, 14 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Inuits were and are there! Inuits are in Greenland, but not Iceland (although there are some mixed citizens). Erasing them is seriously wrong.[1] The Icelanders are actively opposing Trump's colonial and imperial pretensions. This is just an ill-disguised extension of Terra nullius and an attack on Iceland, Greenland and Denmark's relationship — all of which are recognized and protected by treaties with the United States. I think you should post it. 7&6=thirteen () 16:08, 14 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I’ll rush to do that. Doug Weller talk 17:41, 14 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

AI Overview No, there is no native or indigenous Inuit population in Iceland. Iceland is recognized as the only Arctic state without an indigenous population, with its inhabitants having descended from Norse and Celtic settlers who arrived in the 9th century. Key details: Settlement History: While Inuit people inhabited Greenland, they did not settle in Iceland. Geography/Culture: The Inuit were primarily in North America, Greenland, and Russia. Iceland was settled by Europeans (Vikings) who did not historically interact with or merge with Inuit populations. Proximity: Despite being close to Greenland (approx. 300 km), it is believed that Inuit, who used specialized boats for coastal hunting, did not make permanent, large-scale migrations to Iceland. While some Greenlanders have mixed Inuit and Danish ancestry, Icelanders do not.

Hi Bearian, I noted that you have unPRODded this page, with the comment "Deprod: Has at least the minimum three sources necessary for a prima facie case of notability". I was surprised because I could not find any. Most of the refs are to her own pages or interviews, or reviews of her books, but I couldn't see anything that would make her notable in her own right. If I'm not doing this right (PROD), can you let me know. Many thanks Blackballnz (talk) 07:50, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

That may be true, but there are citations to New York Times, Washington Post, Publishers Weekly etc. That's literally three best sources. The cruft can get edited out. Bearian (talk) 12:26, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
There are three solutions to your concerns, Blackballnz:
  1. Tag the offending article, which is what I did. It took me about 3 minutes and 8 calories.
  2. Cut out, copy edit, edit down, stubify all the poorly written and sourced content. That might take some energy, concentration, and time.
  3. Take the issue to WP:AfD. This is a technically complicated process that I only use once every few months, but some people use tools to make it easier.
I don't have any personal issue one way or the other. I don't read romance novels, but I don't judge people who do so. I am just cleaning up old tags. Happy editing! Bearian (talk) 12:38, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I used to be really into Cons and Cosplay. I've been to 3 World Cons, dozens of regional cons, was President of a local SF club, and won "Most Humorous Costume" at Bubonicon one year. Bearian (talk) 12:43, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Bearian You're right that there are citations to some very reputable sources, but clicking in to them only shows, at best, that particular books exist (and have been well reviewed, or are selling well). There is literally nothing about the writer as a person (which is needed for BLP) apart from in self-published sources. I'll take this one to AfD.
I've just spent a long time bringing List of literary adaptations of Pride and Prejudice up to scratch - it was previously a mess of unreferenced fan fiction (and I've probably been quite generous keeping some of it in). During that time I've noticed that a lot of BLP articles about romance writers are almost wholly unsourced to reputable sources (while they might have appeared in a NY Times bestseller list), and I'm planning to PROD some of them. So you may see these, but be assured that I've looked closely at the references.
FYI I also don't read romance novels, and don't judge those who do. Blackballnz (talk) 18:45, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bearian, While going through Feb. 2025 unref. category, I found this one. A minor FYI; there were no Talk WPs so I added "Schools" and "China" there. Hope that will bring interested editors to improve, otherwise, my first thought was Prod/AfD. So will now wait a while on this one. Cheers, JoeNMLC (talk) 15:44, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox

[edit source]

Sandbox pages aren't allowed to be in mainspace categories, not even temporarily. You may use them in disabled form, or you may leave them off the sandbox page and add them only when you're moving the content into an actual mainspace article, but there's absolutely no 24-hour dispensation for temporarily putting sandbox pages into categories that would group them with mainspace articles and thus be visible to end users. Bearcat (talk) 19:33, 27 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. Will do in the next few minutes. Bearian (talk) 20:27, 27 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I consider this to be vandalism. You couldn't even wait until I was finished with lunch? Bearian (talk) 20:29, 27 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Sandbox content simply cannot stay in mainspace categories under any circumstances, and people on USERNOCAT cleanup do not have a responsibility to give your sandbox content any special dispensations that aren't also being given to anybody else's sandbox content. I'm not psychic, so I have no way of knowing whether you're "on lunch" or doing something else, and no way of knowing how much longer the page will stay in the category or how many readers will see it there in the meantime — so the job of USERNOCAT is "get all sandbox pages out of categories now", not "get most sandbox pages out of categories now but give some other sandbox pages special dispensations to stay in categories for some indeterminate amount of extra time just because the creator might be on lunch". (The rules of USERNOCAT cleanup, incidentally, also do not require anybody to ask you for permission to remove categories from your sandbox pages — the job is "remove categories now", not "go around asking everybody for permission to remove categories later".)
And as for that draft you tried to throw at my userpage as some kind of gotcha, what mainspace category was involved there? Somebody uncommented a draft category meant for drafts, so what's that got to do with mainspace categories that mix drafts with articles? Bearcat (talk) 20:55, 27 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bearian, I noticed some of my errors being corrected by yourself lately so thank you for that! @Itsaclarinet, please add at least one more citation to Poppy Baskcomb: ideally, every BLP should have at least 3 or 4 citations. Bearian (talk) 07:58, 11 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher) N.B. that the article has been draftified - it's now at Draft:Poppy Baskcomb. The policy for removing a BLPPROD tag is at: Wikipedia:Proposed deletion of biographies of living people § Objecting, which states: To be canceled, this process (when correctly initiated) requires the presence of at least one reliable source that supports at least one statement made about the person in the biography. Do not remove the {{prod blp/dated}} until the biography has at least one such source.. But, as Bearian says, it is good practice to try and add more citations than the minimum if you can. I feel like making an essay akin to WP:HAMMER or WP:ROT13 about how charting isn't a guaranteed indicator of notability, because it seems some editors still blindly cling to "they charted so they're notable, sources be damned". Notability of Israeli individuals

[edit source]

Hi Bearian. I'm not quite sure that I follow your logic in those deprods. Do you believe any articles on Israeli subjects should never go through PROD? Does that apply to other contentious topics such as American politics? AusLondonder (talk) 14:40, 12 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, for the immediate future. AusLondonder, you might not be aware of exactly how controversial Israeli politics has gotten here. Powerful people in Palm Beach and Texas want to use our supposed antisemitism and our alleged bias against Israel as an easy excuse to eliminate the WMF's charitable status (retroactively). That would destroy Wikipedia. We must be careful and completely above the board, at least until next January 2027. Have a field day after that, but for now, please don't use Proposed Deletion for these controversial topics; please use AfD. Bearian (talk) 19:39, 1 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really not sure what sensationalist allegations of political bias have to do with proposing articles for deletion due to notability concerns. AusLondonder (talk) 08:23, 3 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Let me be blunt: Trump, Musk, ADL, and Cruz have explicitly said that they want to eliminate the WMF tax exemption, citing bias specifically against Israel. They will be forced into the political minority in January 2027, so please hold off until then, so as not to give them any ammunition. At least if we debate it at AfD, it looks better and we can have evidence of processes that rebut bias. I have a whole essay about it with links at User:Bearian/Portfolio, under my concerns. Color framing

[edit source]

Thanks for tagging the color framing article. I've quickly added some citations for the most important points in the article, and tweaked the wording a bit to clarify some points. It's a remarkably obscure topic nowadays, having been rendered completely obsolete since the advent of digital timebase correctors in the 1980s. Ideally, these cites will be improved later by others to point to more authoritative sources. — The Anome (talk) 10:32, 23 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

March 2026 WikiProject Unreferenced articles backlog drive – award

[edit source]

Citation Barnstar

This award is given in recognition to Bearian for collecting more than 149 points during the WikiProject Unreferenced articles's March 2026 backlog drive. Your contributions played a crucial role in sourcing over 8362 unsourced articles during the drive. Thank you so much for participating and helping to reduce the backlog! – DreamRimmer 16:35, 28 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much! Bearian (talk) 03:01, 29 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

advice for citations

[edit source]

Hi! I’ve come across your work on Wikipedia and really appreciate the care and consistency you bring to editing. Quick question: how do you usually handle multiple reliable sources supporting the same point without cluttering the article? Thanks for any guidance! Vincentvarc (talk) 19:41, 28 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Add in what you think are the three best sources: use WP:THREE as a guide, Vincentvarc. For the actual guidelines on reliable sources, see WP:RS – these include mainstream media, most government websites, textbooks, and any newspaper of record. For what are unreliable sources, see Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources; examples are Fox News, the New York Post, British "tabloids," political parties and partisan activists, blogs like Daily Kos and Wired, podcasts, social media platforms, personal websites, and Forbes, which should be used with caution. Please note that sometimes it's a "depends": examples are People and the ADL. For banned sources, see Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources: these are spam and, depending on your browser, might be blocked by Wikipedia. Happy editing! Bearian (talk) 20:11, 28 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your input. May I show you an article I am working on, that I have been told the sources come across as “citebombing”? Vincentvarc (talk) 09:59, 29 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
If it comes across as citebombing, then it is, because perception is everything. I'm not doing any more reviews of new articles, having been "flamed" repeatedly. Bearian (talk) 10:01, 29 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I understand why that would be frustrating. Would you be open to just taking a quick look, nothing formal, just a brief glance? Your eye for detail is always really valuable, so even a small bit of input would mean a lot. Vincentvarc (talk) 10:20, 29 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Declined G4

[edit source]

Just letting you know that I've declined your G4 tag of Martina Dimoska, as the previous article was about a footballer (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Martina Dimoska). This was admittedly a little tough to figure out, as the current page was moved to its current title after the other one was deleted. It's currently also at AfD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Martina Dimoska (2nd nomination). Toadspike [Talk] 01:08, 2 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page The Best of England Dan and John Ford Coley, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A missing title error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 17:18, 3 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Alexandra Jakob AFD

[edit source]

Hello, I've just speedy-closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alexandra Jakob (2nd nomination), in which you participated, because it's seemingly involved in a scam attempt and sockpuppetry; see WP:AN#Report of Scam on Wikipedia and Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Expertwikiguy. If you believe that this article should be deleted, you're welcome to renominate it immediately — WP:SK prohibits making nominations of the same page with the same arguments immediately after they were strongly rejected in a recently closed deletion discussion, but that doesn't apply here because the closure was procedural. I'm notifying all AFD participants who are longstanding contributors (1+ year of editing or 1000 edits), so if you believe that it should be kept, look out in case someone else renominates it. Nyttend (talk) 00:22, 5 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Request to review the page Thomas M. Melsheimer

[edit source]

Dear @Bearian, thank you for your previous attention and contributions to the Thomas M. Melsheimer page. I work with the subject of the article, and I was asked to see if some notable information about him can be included. According to the guidelines, I am not allowed to edit the page directly. May I kindly ask you to review these points, and include them to his page at your own discretion?

  • Tom has assumed a new role at King & Spalding, as reported here;
  • Ruel Hamilton case, lead by Tom, ended in acquittal, as reported here
  • Tom Melsheimer co-authored an instructive book for trial lawyers titled On the Jury Trial in 2017. The book was reviewed by Judge Alan Albright, as stated here

I reviewed the article. I think it actually needs less, not more. At a certain point, expansion of an BLP article, especially for an attorney, academic, or business person, creates a c.v., not an encyclopedia article. A gentle reminder that we are not LinkedIn. I'm going to tag it with a copyedit notice and edit from there. Bearian (talk) 14:50, 19 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question about a redirect

[edit source]

In February you redirected a traditional Russian folk songs wikipage to a random French romantic films page, could I ask why this happened? The latters page makes no mention of the song.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ah_Vy,_Seni,_Moi_Seni&redirect=no

The song being Ah Vy, Seni, Moi Seni. Barynya.com claims "The song was known at least since 18th century." Squogg (talk) 20:02, 12 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot to mention, I believe you accidentally did this as the the film is mentioned on the songs page "The song was used in the 2009 French film Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky."
I'll probably undo that for now, but just incase I figured I should ask you about it. Squogg (talk) 20:05, 12 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yes! My feelings about unsourced articles that have some relevance to pop culture should be preserved as redirects to the most important or common referenced article, everything being equal. That's why I redirected it to the film that used the song, Squogg. Bearian (talk) 14:36, 15 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Redrose64, but did I make a mistake in coding it? Bearian (talk) 20:41, 17 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No, but there's a significant difference in what can happen following removal of the prod tag. If a normal PROD tag is removed, it cannot be replaced; but if a BLPPROD tag is removed, it may be replaced so long as the article remains unsourced. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:44, 17 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Articles with general references are not "unsourced"

[edit source]

Hello, I have just finished going through Jim Kokoris and I wanted to suggest you look more closely at general references in future before PRODding an article. The article was cited to the biographical dictionary Contemporary Authors, which is a high-quality source. Additionally, before tagging an author's article for notability, it is good to do a quick check to see if their books pass NBOOK; Kokoris's plainly do. This was a perfectly notable and verifiable article and it would have been a loss to Wikipedia if it had been deleted. ~ le 🌸 valyn (talk) 20:46, 17 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, LEvalyn, for that information. I'll be more careful in the future. Bearian (talk) 20:50, 17 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

How to improve my draft

[edit source]

Hi there, thank you for taking your time to vote in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Javier Loureiro. The article has been moved to a draft so I was wondering If I could get some feedback on how to improve it before submitting it for review. Best TechnoESP (talk) 16:00, 25 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Legally, TechnoESP, you can't, and in this political environment, it's a problem. See User:Bearian/Portfolio. My feedback is to wait until January 7, 2027. Bearian (talk) 16:23, 25 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest I'm even more confused now, first off I don't understand why I can't "legally" improve it, and what does the political environment have to do with it. Maybe you mistook it for another article? Looking forward to hearing back from you. Thanks TechnoESP (talk) 17:56, 25 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
It's my understanding that this article is about you, TechnoESP, or at least that's the appearance of impropriety. Normally, we let that slide, but powerful interests want to use autobiographical pages as a reason to take away our charitable status, as an illegal conflict of interest. However, the real reason is that we won't bend the knee to those powerful men. If you can just wait until after they are no longer in power, then we can revisit the issue. Did you not click on my portfolio essays? Do you not follow the news? Bearian (talk) 18:31, 25 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the confusion, but I'm not the subject this article reads about. As a new editor a few months back I tried to start contributing to wikipedia by creating a couple biographies of people who developed products that I use such us Ariel Manzur or Juan Linietsky. Unfortunately those were made into redirects but hopefully someday will qualify for a standalone article. I took a look at your portfolio essays and I don't have any problem waiting to start working on this article again, I just wanted some feedback on how to improve it when the time comes so It won't be nominated for Afd again. Ty TechnoESP (talk) 19:16, 25 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the Leah Soibel Deletion Prop

[edit source]

Thought it was enough on the "very dubious notability" camp where it qualified for a direct deletion proposal (though obviously not meeting the standards for speedy deletion). But maybe (not being sarcastic here) that one article on her work by Jewish Insider is enough to tip the scales into "needs a dedicated deletion proposal page" territory. ~2026-31050-15 (talk) 03:32, 26 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Heads up on PRODs

[edit source]

Hey, thought I should let you know that the PRODs you are endorsing say "poorly sourced BLP" on non-BLP articles. I figured this might be a copy-paste thing, so just letting you know. – Ike Lek (talk) 05:53, 29 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

We had a house guest, an old friend, over last weekend. He brought and used his own translucent containers to store our leftover food. I couldn't see what was in them, and if they were in aluminum foil, I'll open them up, while if they're clear glass, I can see inside easily. It's hard for me to see what's inside a translucent container, and I automatically pass them by. So my partner gets angry at me for not being able to find the leftovers he wants to eat. Same idea here. If I can't tell easily whether the subject of a biography is alive or dead, I assume they are alive. Yes, it's copy-paste, but they don't make it easy on us. Bearian (talk) 15:05, 29 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I should clarify, the articles aren't people. Ike Lek (talk) 16:09, 29 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean the boys' and girls' names, or the bands? All of them have to do with living people. If some random editor posts in an article that "Ike Lek" means "Eisenhower tongue" in Dutch, it is technically and literally correct, but it might still be a BLP violation. If it has to do with living people, whether their names, or their gemeinshaft, or the band they used to perform with, or who they previously dated, or their kids' names, or their ohana, or their family, then BLP applies. I mean, I do sometimes make cut & paste typos, but those were not. Bearian (talk) 17:06, 29 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not here to contest the PRODs, but the pages I saw this on are Aderera, Adégbémiró, and Sabaw. None of these are biographies of living people. Arguably, Sabaw contains unsourced information that could warrant immediate removal because of its potential connection to living people; however that still doesn't make any of the pages biographies. Something being related to living people does not make it a BLP. The page Monarchy of the United Kingdom is not somehow a BLP because there is a living British monarch, but information about the current King Charles included in the article is still subject to the same standards of sourcing as in the the Charles III article, which is a BLP. It's a meaningful distinction. Aderera and Adégbémiró are likely non-notable, but they aren't in any way biographical. They are poorly sourced microstubs containing linguistic information. Ike Lek (talk) 18:43, 29 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted my edits, but under WP:BLPGROUP:

The extent to which the BLP policy applies to edits about groups is complex and must be judged on a case-by-case basis. A harmful statement about a small group or organization comes closer to being a BLP problem than a similar statement about a larger group; and when the group is very small, it may be impossible to draw a distinction between the group and the individuals that make up the group.

Padegan-e Amuzeshi-ye Shahid Beheshti

[edit source]

I note you deprodded this (now deleted) article on the grounds that it appeared to be a village. This is understandable, since the article creator wrote that it was a village, but please note that the name is literally "Shahid Behesti Training Camp" and is the location of a police academy.

This is the fundamental problem with these Iranian census locations: the Iranian census, like a lot of other countries censuses, is simply counting the number of people. They don't care whether a location is a town, a village, or a city, or anything at all. In this case, they're just counting the number of new recruits staying in the local police barracks.
