WANZ photography grant

[edit]

In 2024 I got a grant from Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand to take new photos of uncommon instruments not well represented by freely-licensed images, which are now on Commons and illustrate several instrument articles. It was lots of fun and I hope to do more.

Current projects and preoccupations

[edit]
I've managed to get quite distracted with brass band instruments, and working on getting tenor horn, baritone horn, tuba, flugelhorn, cornet, and euphonium articles up to GA and eventually FA status.
  • Articles about New Zealand, helping out on WP:NZ, and participating in Wikipedia:Meetup/Wellington.
  • New Zealand conductors, composers and orchestras; there is no article for SOUNZ (Toi te Arapūoru / Centre for New Zealand Music), and it needs to be an authority control source for New Zealand classical and contemporary music; many articles are incomplete and need photos/infoboxes.
  • Wine articles, particularly New Zealand wine, but also rare or unusual (often Italian) grape varieties, for example Sagrantino or Corvinone.
  • Conifers. I'd like to start work on some favourite and familiar species, starting with getting Pinus radiata up to GA/FA. I'm waiting for a couple of rare books to arrive first.
  • Hooking things up in Wikidata.
  • Contributing photos to Commons.
  • Buffing references and citations in general wherever necessary.
