NOTICE: As of February 17, 2026, I'm using WP:AutoWikiBrowser (AWB) to standardize citations of Anime News Network in anime and manga articles by including wikilinks and having it listed as a website, rather than a publisher. Please see below if you have questions.

Why change the publisher parameter to website?

Per MOS:ITALICWEBCITE:

"When used by Wikipedia in a reference citation, any website or other online publication is being cited as a published work, by definition; Wikipedia does not cite companies, individuals, or other entities, only works published by them. As with sources in any medium...titles of major works (e.g., websites) go in italics, even if they would not be italicized in running text as services, companies, etc."
"Whether the publisher name is substantially the same as the work name is immaterial; as the citation template documentation instructs, in such a case the publisher (not work) should be omitted as redundant."
"Do not abuse incorrect template parameters (e.g., by putting the work title in |publisher= or |via=) in an attempt to avoid italicizing digital sources. This has been the subject of numerous consensus discussions."

When the publisher parameter is used in place of website, the citation doesn't show what work is being cited. Because the publisher and website parameters shouldn't be both used, only website is kept, and it's italicized accordingly.

Yes. See this discussion, where editors have agreed with the MOS's conclusions as it pertains to Anime News Network's citation in templates. The linked MOS is also based off a previous RfC.

How can these edits be hidden from watchlists?

WP:HIDEAWB provides an easy way to do so.

Why use AWB?

It changes how the article appears to the reader, meaning it's a non-cosmetic edit, and it's a one-time and project-specific task. It's also relatively repetitive, but requires supervision due to the need to be careful when changing template parameters.

Other concerns?

I have AWB configured so that I'm instantly notified of any talk page messages. The regex I set up has been tested to be accurate across a sample of almost 1000 articles, but it's possible there might be edge cases. If so, please let me know and I'll promptly fix it.

About me

I'm a longtime lurker who finally registered an account. After a few months of editing, I think I've gotten a decent grasp on things, but of course, there's always still more to learn. I appreciate any feedback, and thank you if you've helped improved one of my edits.

Projects

I usually work in the area of WikiProject Anime and manga, helping to add content along with ensuring that existing info meets standards. Rather than pursuing any set standard for an article, my goal is to incorporate any relevant and useful information from existing reliable sources, however much that may be. As such, sometimes I might be satisfied that an article is GA-class in a few days (Sakura Trick), and other times, it can be a months-long project (The Executioner and Her Way of Life).

Aside from that, I enjoy copyediting; I see it as a small amount of work to help the efforts of others be more easily understood. If that sounds interesting to you, considering joining the Guild of Copy Editors. I also like fixing typos using AutoWikiBrowser.

I'm interested in editor retention, and have signed up as a mentor for new users, along with welcoming them whenever possible. I encourage others to do the same.

Editing standards

Inspired by both things I've seen and users who I admire. Although my main topic areas are rarely ones that involve any contention, it never hurts to be accountable.

I pledge to:

be willing to explain any edit I've made.
never undo someone's work without explaining why.
never re-revert any edits unless the re-revert is necessary to prevent core policy violations.
seek and respect uninvolved third opinions in case of reasonable disagreement.
pursue all possible informal methods of dispute resolution before seeking formal ones.
