Weasly intro

Throughout 2024, roughly half of then-employed AI safety researchers left OpenAI, citing the company's prominent role in an industry-wide problem.

Nah, they were citing the company's lowered focus or gagging on AGI safety. The vague "role in an industry-wide problem" reads like preemptive apologia.-- ze un fo un 21:39, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

The phrase "citing the company's prominent role in an industry-wide problem" is indeed needlessly wordy and could be made clearer. Alenoach (talk) 01:11, 13 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed it to "citing the company's deprioritization of safety goals", based on the Fortune article. I'm not sure how else to phrase it while keeping it brief. — Newslinger talk 12:55, 9 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. Alenoach (talk) 17:52, 9 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

"GPT" in the lead

Hi @ReferenceMan. I saw that you changed "OpenAI developed the GPT family of large language models" (v1) to "OpenAI developed the generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) family of large language models" (v2).

Many AI companies develop a family of generative pre-trained transformer; most LLMs developed nowadays are generative pre-trained transformer. What distinguishes the OpenAI family of LLMs is that most of its models are named "GPT-something". In v1, "GPT" is intended to be a proper noun (a brand name), that's what makes it "the" family of LLMs instead of "a" family of LLMs. So I think v2 has a phrasing issue.

Maybe we could rework the full sentence, since DALL-E and Sora are no longer active projects. e.g., something like "OpenAI is known for developing generative AI models, including a series of generative pre-trained transformers (GPTs)." Alenoach (talk) 16:47, 3 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Name in the first sentence

Hi @FCBWanderer, @Kalpesh Manna 2002, @TempoaryAcc. I noticed that "OpenAI" was replaced by "OpenAI Group PBC" in the first sentence and in the infobox. But since the same article covers both the nonprofit and the for-profit PBC, maybe just "OpenAI" is better? Let me know if you disagree. There is also the issue that if we start with "OpenAI Group PBC" instead of "OpenAI", then the first sentence needs to be rephrased, because saying that the PBC consists of a PBC controlled by a nonprofit is awkward. Note: the issue was fixed thanks to FCBWanderer. Alenoach (talk) 22:57, 28 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
