I remember seeing the youtuber macdoesit (who is an overweight cis guy) shirtless on camera for the first time and I was like damn. He's shaped kinda like I am under there. I mean my boobs are obviously much bigger because I went through estrogen puberty the first time but he had some little man boobs. And that led me to looking at more pics of shirtless obese cis men and some of them looked like me but like with smaller boobs. Obviously most of them didn't because contrary to popular belief there's many types of fat bodies but some of them were kinda shaped like me. I was previously comparing myself to this idea of the skinny easily passing trans man with small boobs and I weirdly feel better comparing myself to fat cis men now. There's this idea of how transmasc people are supposed to look that I've just never fit into. I'm fat, I don't bind most days because of my health issues, even when I do bind I'm still not flat. But after seeing other fat men I realized that the way I look, although ugly in the eyes of society and sometimes the queer community too, is... normal. And even if I don't like the way I look for myself at least now I know that I'm not like a freak of nature like I used to think when comparing myself to the trans men I saw on the internet.

I have the body build of a skinny gangly teenage boy but a much much larger chest. Like, comically imbalanced. So no matter how much I bind, I still look like... well, I look like I have boobs. My body doesn’t suit the “built chest muscles” vibe because my arms are pretty scrawny. All throughout teenhood I felt really gross about it. I wanted to be flat SO BAD and when I realized binding wouldn’t fix it all the way, I probably almost cried with misery and frustration.

I never really found a cis man that had my shape. But the moment that assisted in changing my perspective on my body was when I noticed that a kid names James in my university class had... kinda my shape. Skinny, with a weirdly un-skinny chest. And a more ‘feminine’ face. I gathered that James was a trans guy [or something on that spectrum, I never asked] — I had a feeling, naturally, but then I SAW his binder under his button-up shirt. And my brain went, “hey look— a boy, like you. With a shape like you.” James being my shape turned that shape into an acceptable and valid boy shape in my head, because James was an acceptable and valid boy. Of course he was.

It actually wasn't so hard for me to find men's pants that fit me but, that being said, while I do have hips and thighs and ass, my body has always been somewhat masculinized due to being intersex so I actually had a really hard time fitting into women's clothing and found men's to be a huge relief.

That being said, one of the major reasons I buy underwear from the companies that I do- which specialize in trans masc undies- is because A: women's underwear largely is not made to accommodate a penis and thus wearing a packer is INCREDIBLY uncomfortable in them (and I assume trans women with penises have this exact problem as well, sorry gals) while B: men's underwear largely is not made to accommodate a penis that isn't actually attached to you and thus upping the chances that your packer will simply fall out of the leg of your pants.

There's a handful of companies that make underwear specifically for packing and that was exclusively who I bought underwear through for a long time. At some point cis men figured out that much of the same design makes having testicles and shaft contained by tight pants also more comfortable, and pouch underwear got popularized in recent years, and now you don't *have* to buy the expensive trans-specific niche underwear anymore because you can find similar pretty much everywhere. But for a while, yeah, I sure was paying 25 dollars per pair because otherwise either the goods couldn't breathe or they were falling out of my pants (and once into a public toilet bowl 😱🤢)

Anyway I find it interesting that we talk about how HRT has fat redistribution and often makes people gain weight in unexpected ways, and how not everyone who socially transitions does anything medical, and also how people who are outside of your expected model size (especially the very tall, very short, very fat, and very thin) often have to shop specialty or get their clothes custom made, but OP can't wrap their head around how men's pants aren't always a good match for those whose hips don't lie.

To add onto what doberbutts said about expected model size, many of us are physically smaller than the average cis man and want clothes that actually fit us without having to go to the children's department (where the quality often isn't the same)

Like, my pant size is about a 26x26 or 26x28. The smallest pants you can often find in the men's department are 30x30. Similarly, my jacket size is 32. Good luck finding a sportcoat in a smaller size than a 36. And sure, you can try the boys' department, but any formal clothes are going to be practically made of tissue paper because "what the hell it's not like kids even want to wear this stuff, and they'll grow out of it in 3 months anyway"

And yes I acknowledge that even being able to shop in the children's department is skinny privilege, because even "husky" sizes, when you can find them, aren't that much bigger than the standard sizes.

So shoutout to brands that make pants that actually fit, out of materials that last more than 6 months, with shirts to match that actually look like something an adult would wear

Also I know we live in an era of fast fashion but when you take into account the cost of good materials and ethical production, $99 really isn't a crazy amount to charge for a pair of jeans

Gay bears stand up to campground that banned trans men

Grizzly Pines, a clothing-optional campground in Navasota, Texas, northeast of Houston, is now embroiled in controversy after the Houston Bears canceled their annual Bear Camp at the facility, citing the campground’s “MEN ONLY” policy. The campground defines that as excluding trans men.

In a statement explaining the cancellation, the Houston Bears said, “A community member recently inquired if they could attend Bear Camp at Grizzly Pines because the member thought that Grizzly Pines had a policy of not allowing transgender men to stay at their facilities.”

A second Texas bear organization, RGV Bears in the Rio Grande Valley, expressed support for the Houston Bears’ decision and followed suit, canceling their own event booked for Grizzly Pines.

“To our RGV Teddy Bear trans members, we will create events that we can continue to enjoy together in siblinghood (bearhood),” the group wrote.

Like 90% of these comment are just riddled with repackaged misogyny. Transandrophobic women have massive amounts of internalized misogyny that they just project onto trans men and transmascs because projecting your internalized misogyny onto cis women strips away your girls girl title and projecting it onto trans women will get you labeled a terf. So instead your project it onto trans men and transmascs.

the multiple comments about mood stabilizers are really getting me…not just because of the blatant misogyny but also because the idea that trans men on t need to be on some sort of psych meds was something my former psychiatrist tried to actually enforce when i told her i was going to be starting t. i was in the process of getting off of an ssri at the time that was hurting me more than it helped, and she tried to make me stay on it and even go back to my original dose because she was convinced i wouldn’t be able to handle being on t without it. the only reason she let up was that i told her i would stop taking it regardless of if she helped me manage the process or not. all things considered, i got off easy because the possibility of forcing those meds on me was only ever talked about and not actually attempted.

like, these aren’t just ideas held by people who like complaining about men on tiktok. these are ideas held by professionals with power over trans men who can and will use that power to limit our bodily autonomy and control as much of our lives as they possibly can. perpetuating them is part of a long history of outcasting and disempowering oppressed people by marking them as ‘crazy’ and in need of psychiatric intervention.

but yeah, it’s a great idea to reinvent the concept of hysteria! it’s not like that’s ever been used as a tool of medical oppression, right? definitely just a funny thing to make jokes about at the expense of a marginalized group…

Very, very, extremely broke: Trans men can be abusive because they are men (implicitly saying that women are inherently less abusive, which is…. the exact logic that leads to people thinking trans men are inherently incapable of abuse????????)

These comments reek of confirmation bias. It also reminds me of how White racists will try and act “pro-woman” by talking about how all Black men are super violent and abusive to their partners (see: Bruno from the Emmy-award winning show Black. White). It’s not that that never ever happens, but you are not making that point out of the goodness of your heart. You hate a certain group of men and are demonizing them under the guise of caring about abuse. Especially when trans men are themselves highly vulnerable to being abused.

This behavior is no better than, when trans men who have been abused by trans women talk about their experiences, people insisting that this is proof trans women are violent males. In both cases, you are taking a real issue (abuse, specifically within the trans community) and using it to justify transphobic misandry. Portraying a marginalized group as being inherently violent/dangerous because of some kind of inherent maleness is a starter tool in the white supremacist patriarchy toolkit.
