We believe technology can and should be a force for good and that meaningful innovation contributes to a brighter world in the future and today. Our culture doesn’t just encourage curiosity; it embraces it. Each day we make progress together by showing up as our authentic selves. We show up with a learn-it-all mentality. We show up cheering on others, knowing their success doesn't diminish our own. We show up every day open to learning our own biases, changing our behavior, and inviting in differences. Because impact matters. Microsoft operates in 190 countries and is made up of approximately 228,000 passionate employees worldwide.

The most meaningful breakthroughs happen when technology is built with people in mind.   That was the message at Microsoft Build this month, where we announced a host of new tools to help developers build, dream and create.   In June’s edition of The Monthly Tech-In, we’re sharing stories from Build and beyond about the developers, founders and communities who are using AI to tackle real-world challenges, from helping creators protect their work to advancing more inclusive AI systems.   Read more about the people and innovations who are shaping what's next:

When we launched our Community-First AI Infrastructure plan in January, we made a promise: we would meet the growing demand for datacenters without straining the resources communities depend on. Water was central to that commitment.     Today we shared our progress. Since our first datacenter designs in the early 2000s, we have improved our water-use effectiveness by nearly 90 percent. We are more than halfway to our 2030 water-intensity goal. And in FY25, we replenished more water globally than we withdrew, a milestone toward becoming water positive.     Digital growth and responsible water stewardship can move forward together, and the communities we call home should be stronger for it.

    • Infographic with a headline reading ‘Inside Microsoft’s 20-year push to cut water intensity while scaling for growth.’ A section labeled ‘By the numbers’ presents four key data points. First, a large ‘90 percent’ indicating a reduction in water use intensity since the early 2000s. Second, another ‘90 percent’ showing that Microsoft’s 2025 owned fleet runs on low- to zero-water cooling. Third, ‘2025’ noting the year Microsoft replenished more water globally than it withdrew. Fourth, ‘500 million dollars’ representing the amount invested since 2020 in more than 75 water and wastewater projects with meaningful community co-benefits. The design uses large serif typography and blue gradient backgrounds for each statistic tile.

Today we broke ground in La Porte, Indiana, alongside Mayor Tom Dermody, local leaders, and community members who made this possible. This marks more than the start of a new datacenter. It represents the future of this community and our commitment to being a good neighbor. Beyond the thousands of construction jobs, our first phase will create more than 600 permanent Microsoft jobs. It will grow local tax revenues to support schools and the broader community for generations. Our campus will be designed with the latest energy efficient and closed-loop liquid cooling technologies to conserve natural resources. And we will enhance the surrounding ecosystem to strengthen flood protection and natural habitat. La Porte means "the door." Together, we hope to help open a door to what's next, and to be the kind of neighbor that makes a community proud to call Microsoft part of its hometown.

Cancer care has become more precise over time, but outcomes can still vary widely. Now, researchers are looking beyond mutations to how tumors behave. In new findings published in Nature Methods, Microsoft researcher Lorin Crawford shares how the right data can help AI reveal patterns in cell behavior that may lead to better ways to match therapies to patients. Our newest AI Diffusion Report is out, and I sat down with Juan M. Lavista Ferres on Tools and Weapons to dig into what the first few months of 2026 are telling us. For the first time, we're looking at AI usage county by county across the United States, and some of the findings may surprise you. Recently, we welcomed Alix Earle for her first visit to Microsoft campus and it was a fun reminder of how much technology, creativity, and storytelling are colliding right now.   From exploring new Microsoft products and experiences, to meeting the Xbox, Surface and Copilot teams building them, Alix spent the day getting a behind-the-scenes look at how ideas go from concept to impact.   A lot has happened for Alix since we last spoke at Cannes, and it was great hearing her perspective on launching Reale Actives, growing as a founder, and staying genuinely connected to her audience as her platform continues to expand.   Thanks again to Alix for spending the day with us on campus and for such an honest conversation about building, creating, and growing in real time.   Excited to share more from our chat. What an amazing day at Microsoft Build. Loved getting to dig into #accessibility with people from so many industries. Some folks knew accessibility deeply, others were just starting to learn, but everyone agreed on one thing: this is what responsible AI looks like. The conversations today made it clear that accessibility is no longer a niche topic. It’s becoming foundational to how we build better products, better experiences, and better technology for everyone. If you’re at Build and haven’t stopped by yet, come check out the Access for All booth and say hi. We’d love to show you how AI is helping change the game for accessibility across Microsoft and beyond.

Day one of Microsoft Build is in the books, and the conversations at the Access for All booth have been incredible. There’s so much energy around how AI is reshaping accessibility. From GitHub’s Accessibility Scanner to new ways developers are building inclusion directly into their workflows, it’s exciting to see accessibility becoming part of the product development process from the start. The best part has been the conversations, hearing your stories, perspectives, and the ways inclusive technology is shaping the work you do every day. If you’re at Build this week, stop by the Access for All booth. We’d love to connect and keep the conversation going. #Accessibility #MicrosoftBuild #GitHubAccessibilityScanner

Microsoft is advancing how organizations stay ahead of the risks and possibilities AI brings at #MSBuild. Notably, this includes the expanded preview of MDASH, a multi-model agentic scanning system from Microsoft Security. By orchestrating 100+ specialized AI agents, MDASH can find and validate vulnerabilities at scale. More importantly, it cuts through the noise, allowing teams to focus on what truly matters. Now integrated directly into Microsoft Defender for preview users, MDASH brings this intelligence into the day-to-day SOC environment—embedding a human-guided AI harness right where defenders operate. Early momentum is strong, with 10% increased performance in CyberGym testing.  Explore how we’re bringing agentic security and end-to-end protection into the workflow in Aleš Holeček Holecek's blog: https://lnkd.in/g8pKvwqt

Mayo Clinic and Microsoft are collaborating to develop a frontier AI model designed specifically for healthcare, combining Mayo Clinic's clinical expertise and healthcare insights with Microsoft's advanced AI and engineering capabilities. The collaboration aims to support earlier diagnoses, more personalized treatment decisions, and better patient and clinician experiences through AI. The technology is designed to support clinicians and help inform decision-making while keeping patients and healthcare professionals at the center of care. Unlike general-purpose AI tools, healthcare requires deep clinical context, rigorous governance, and real-world validation. The frontier AI model will be owned by Mayo Clinic, reinforcing Mayo Clinic's commitment to patient trust, safety and responsible stewardship of clinical data and AI. Microsoft plans to make the model available through Azure Foundry APIs, helping expand access to advanced healthcare AI capabilities worldwide.
