Vasu Jakkal shared thisAfter six years of building our incredible Microsoft Security business alongside my amazing team and colleagues, I want to share that I have made the decision to leave Microsoft. This decision comes from a place of gratitude, joy, fullness and optimism for the future. I am so proud of the world-class organization we have built. ♥️ It’s been an epic journey - six years ago, we formed our Security customer solution area and the growth and impact of Microsoft Security over these past years has been incredible -as we built the #1 security business in the world while keeping our mission of building a safer world for all at the heart of it. Being a part of that journey has been one of the great honors of my life. Still, the most glorious achievement in my mind will always be our people and our culture. I am so very proud of our team and how they have led with purpose, empathy, optimism and fierce determination to deliver on our critical mission of security for all. Thank YOU to our amazing team. ♥️ In addition to my amazing team and colleagues, I want to give special thanks to our wonderful customers, partners, and security community, who have been a constant source of inspiration for me and who have brought meaning to my work every single day. I have loved meeting and getting to know each and every one of you - – thank you for your trust and commitment! Vasu Jakkal shared thisSpending time in London at the Financial Times Live Women in Business Summit left me reflecting on the kind of workplaces we’re building and the responsibility we all share in shaping what comes next. Progress on gender equity is shaped by the decisions leaders make every day: who we listen to, who we advocate for, and how we intentionally create space for every voice to be heard. It’s not separate from business strategy—it is business strategy. The most resilient organizations are the ones where everyone has the opportunity to contribute and thrive. What stayed with me most was the energy at the event and the inspiring stories from leaders who are shaping the future around the world. It filled me with hope because when a group of dedicated people work towards an inspiring mission, there is no doubt they will change the world. 💜 Thank you to Madhumita Murgia, the Financial Times and to the other amazing leaders sharing the stage. I left feeling inspired by the conversations that took place and hopeful about the momentum we are building together. #FTWomen

Vasu Jakkal shared thisAs we recognize Juneteenth, I want to take a moment to honor the history, resilience, joy, and ongoing pursuit of freedom that this day represents. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas finally received word of their freedom — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is both a celebration and a reminder: freedom delayed is not freedom fully realized, and each generation has a role to play in advancing justice, dignity, and belonging. “We must always be a strong presence, an unrelenting force working for equality and justice until the freedom gates are fully open.”— Dorothy Height. I love this quote because it reminds us that equality is not passive. It asks something of us — to listen deeply, learn honestly, show up consistently, and use whatever influence we have to help open doors for others. As allies our role is to move beyond awareness into action. Allyship is also not something we practice only one day. It is a daily commitment — in the conversations we have, the questions we ask, the decisions we make, and the culture we build together. Let us be great allies so we can build a better world together for everyone. I hope this Juneteenth brings space for reflection, rest, celebration, and connection. ❤

Vasu Jakkal reacted on thisVasu Jakkal reacted on thisToday I am officially retiring after 19 years at Microsoft, having accepted the VRP offer, and the first thing that comes to mind is gratitude. For the opportunities, and for the many managers, leaders, and colleagues I was fortunate to learn from. A career is really a journey filled with the people who walk beside you, and I have been remarkably lucky in mine. Of everything I did at Microsoft, becoming the lead of our data security team was my greatest privilege. I was hesitant to take the role at first, and I remember using a Robert Frost quote to capture the decision: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. This decision changed the shape of my career. The role shaped the kind of person I am today, because it allowed me to help others grow. Mentoring and coaching people toward their own version of success is what I will take forward as one of my biggest impacts at Microsoft. None of it would have been possible without Donna, my partner of 25 years, whose steadiness, encouragement, and love were the foundation under all of it. And my kids, Asha Kalyan and Dillon Kalyan, who now remind me daily why any of it mattered. Whatever I contributed here was made possible by the three of them. Several people have asked me, “Are you ready?” Climber Melissa Arnot spoke to our team about her first climb of Everest without supplemental oxygen. She had trained, yet still wasn’t convinced she was ready, so she asked her Sherpa partner, "Do you think I am ready?" He told her: “Melissa, you don’t get to know if you are ready. You just go, and then you will know.” This resonates deeply with me, because it applies to nearly every journey in life that matters both personally and professionally. The person who arrives at the summit is different from the person who started. The starting person cannot know what the arriving person will be capable of, because the arriving person does not yet exist. They are created by the climb itself. The hardest climb I never trained for was losing Donna to cancer in January of 2025. In her last days she told me something I think about often: “Raman, don’t let the death of me be the death of you.” Since that day I decided to keep living, fully and with intention. For her, for my kids, and most of all for myself. Most of what is written about grief focuses on what is lost. However, I have realized that I gained something that cannot be taken from me: the knowledge of what full participation in life, with love, looks like. That love is now my foundation and the fuel for what comes next. So today I will do what I have done every day for years. I will open the door and start walking forward. I do not know where the path leads, but I am grateful, optimistic, and free to be present however I choose to be. To everyone who has been part of this chapter, thank you. I’ll carry the memories I made with you with me always. Till we meet again, Raman
