Novy Dhillon posted thisFour weeks ago, as part of a restructuring at Fortis Games, my role was eliminated. Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for my time there. Over the past two years, I had the privilege of working alongside an exceptionally talented team, tackling complex technical and organizational challenges, and helping shape the technology, teams, and development processes behind an ambitious live-service game from early development through player testing. I’m thankful to everyone I had the opportunity to work with and wish the team continued success. After taking a few weeks to recharge and reflect, I’m excited to begin the next chapter. I’m now actively exploring senior leadership opportunities where I can help build exceptional teams, accelerate execution, and shape long-term technology, product, and organizational strategy. Throughout my career, I’ve focused on building high-performing multidisciplinary organizations and creating alignment across engineering, product, production, design, and art. I enjoy operating at the intersection of technology, people, and business strategy—translating long-term vision into execution, developing leaders, improving the way teams work together, and enabling organizations to deliver great products at scale. If you’re looking for a leader who can bridge disciplines, grow organizations, drive strategy, and help shape the future of game development and live services, I’d love to connect. If someone in your network comes to mind, I’d greatly appreciate a share or an introduction. I’m looking forward to what’s next. #GameDevelopment #Leadership #LiveServices #CrossFunctionalLeadership #StrategicLeadership

Novy Dhillon reposted thisI like to take a week retreat for my birthday in order to recharge. Reflect on the last year, and restore my creativity. AI has been the story of the last year. Not just for the industry, but for us. Until we released PULSE, no one had ever released a complex software system that heavily leveraged AI Engineering. We've built the industry's most complex AI-Native system that is available right now. PULSE isn't just friendly to AI, it's both AI-Native and AI-Integrated. These aren't just marketing terms either. Our system is built to integrate AI support into all of the services needed to make, manage, and monetize their games. Building out PULSE has allowed us to deeply understand how to work with multiple layers of agents, and the new way engineers have to approach development. We were green in the beginning, but over the last year we've been able to maintain an increased level of output while minimizing the number of tokens we use weekly. Which is the complete opposite of what our industry is doing. The story of excess may be fine for now, but that compute won't always be subsidized. I'm excited for the next year, our system does things no one else can touch, and with every developer I talk to, I help them understand that they can make the games they love, today, for half the price they're currently spending. Considering the number of developers that are being laid off, our self service product's timing couldn't be better. The picture? Mr. Parker's in Palm Springs. It was a delightful dinner. That candle was actually butter.

TL;DR Help me reach my goal in a time-limited pre-order fundraiser to sell and donate books to a children’s hospital in 2026! https://lnkd.in/gKQxUdnK Isabelle Grows Her Patience follows a tiny hummingbird who discovers that waiting doesn’t have to be frustrating, and there are plenty of ways to grow her patience. It gives caretakers an imaginative way to communicate and practice being patient together. Growing up and growing wise takes time! The book is illustrated in watercolour by me. Through the last 10 months, I’ve encountered setbacks and plenty learnings in making this book from concept to reality. It has helped me practice my own patience! The wait is almost over, and I am thrilled to be working with other authors at bookanauthor.com for this limited-time pre-order campaign. My goal is to sell 50 books this month and start shipping and donating these hardcover books in May 2026. I am offering a few options for those who want to buy books for themselves, friends, or buy and donate to the BC Children’s Hospital. I need your help to share this story and reach these goals!!! I know times are tough for so many folks, so any support means the world to me. Sharing this with a friend or requesting it at your local library are awesome ways too. Novy Dhillon reposted thisNovy Dhillon reposted thisIf You Hire Outside Games, You Need To Be Hiring Games Talent Right Now Over the last 3.5 years, 50,000 incredible games professionals have been laid off. Not because they weren’t great. Not because they didn’t perform. Not because the work wasn’t excellent. They were cut because the industry went through an unprecedented period of layoffs, which is still ongoing. If you were not aware of this, please be aware. And here’s what I want to say plainly to every hiring leader outside games: This is the deepest, most proven talent pool you may be overlooking. Games is one of the most demanding industries on earth. It trains people to ship. To iterate fast. To execute under pressure. To collaborate across every function. And to deliver for customers who can leave in one click. The skills needed to survive and to thrive in games are the ultimate training ground for greatness in any industry. At ASGC, the largest grassroots support community in the video games industry, we currently have 5,300+ games professionals seeking full-time work and nearly 200 open to freelance, contracting, and consulting. Our entire community, including me, has not made a penny doing this work for 38 months and counting and we do it simply because we love the people of the games industry and want to help them. Will you join us in adding to our list of 4,500 people we have helped find work and the 41% of our community members polled who say our resources are a "significant factor in their finding work," whether that final role is found with us or not? If you work in tech, consumer apps, media, entertainment, education, healthcare, retail, fintech, HR tech, consulting, any modern product org, and more, you should be recruiting video games people. Not later. Now. If you want access to our talent list (and our community's many other resources), it’s always free. No catch. No agenda. This is a public service for the video games community and those we can count amongst our allies. Here you go: https://asgc.gg/category1 If you want to change one video game professional's life with a hire, today is your moment. You have my personal gratitude for caring about our industry and its people.

Novy Dhillon reposted thisNovy Dhillon reposted this📌 A Comprehensive Preparation Note for Next Week For Everyone in Our Games Community This isn’t just for those who may be impacted next week. It’s for anyone who has been, might be, or simply wants support. We are always here for you. Over the past three years, 1 in 10 people affected by cuts found their next role at least in part through our community. That makes me proud. But I’m also realistic about what we can and can’t do. So here’s what I want to share: 1. What I see ahead 2. What support exists 3. What we're doing this week 📉 Even with expected cuts, I believe 2025 will see net hiring slightly outpace layoffs. But that still means stasis. 🎯 For every 100 people actively seeking games jobs, only 80-85 will find one. For newcomers, it’s closer to 1 in 20. That’s why I urge everyone to look beyond games to roles one, two, even three steps outside your core experience. It matters. 💬 Now for support: • Our website has 14 free resources, including: - The Combined Games Jobs Workbook (40,000+ roles) + specialized games job resources - 2,500+ community coaches across 4 categories - Career Preparation Resources for resumes, mock interviews, and more - Free event tickets and LinkedIn Premium trials - Job seeker workbooks to make yourself discoverable for hiring teams - Our Creator Partner Network, a vetted group of creators with categorized games job resources - And a lot more • Our Discord has 12,000+ members, a built-in coaching system, and channels for support by discipline, region, experience level, and more, active 24/7 • On LinkedIn I post constantly so stay tuned or follow for updates 📢 If your company or division or studio is affected, we do two things for each unit: 1. I’ll meet with your organization one time per org for anyone interested in my personal time, to walk through resources, answer questions, and ask what else we can build to help others 2. You get a Games Org Support Post (every 3 months) listing those impacted (with recruiter approval and individual consent), included in our new master searchable index so your team is more findable 🛠️ Each day this week, I’ll be updating and expanding our resources, including, but not limited to: • A refreshed Games Jobs listings page • A unified, searchable support index of all past support posts • A rebuilt company hiring database, part of our original Games Jobs Workbook I’m thinking of all gamers. No fake sympathy or talk here. I am calling on all gamers to step up and act. Ask others who say they are sorry what they are doing to help. It is a healthy challenge in this moment. You can always trust us. We never get a penny. It's only out of love for gamers. We will always do our very best for you. More soon.

Novy Dhillon reacted on thisNovy Dhillon reacted on thisWe need to talk about flagging oneself as Open To Work. With this topic simmering for so many friends I care about, I need to put a foot down here. Why do some people think you shouldn't flag yourself as Open To Work, even if you have lost your job? I have some understanding if you are looking and still employed, but only in that specific scenario. Let's break this down. It's for the same reason, I know for sure (because they tell me to the tunes of hundreds and thousands of them), that some people who have lost their jobs don't want a public post that it has happened yet. They believe people will see it and think: YOU ARE AN INFERIOR FAILURE BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE A JOB! Isn't that the most awful thing imaginable? Do you realize that is what you are effectively saying when you judge someone in that way? We can analyze 100 ways why people actually lose their jobs: macroeconomic changes, the whims of capitalist managers that have no rhyme or reason, product and service failures that are totally unpredictable, shifts in technology, people dumping staff to spend on AI, and so many other dynamics. Week after week I hear people saying, on this very platform, and in so many other places, "don't flag yourself - people will think you're desperate." Honestly, I find that ridiculous. People often talk to me about how we can improve mental health. You want to improve mental health? Let's start with simple things like not telling people they are a failure because they lost their job at every possible opportunity, let alone because they put a silly little green circle around their portrait that is simply meant to help them find their next opportunity. Honestly, if you look down on someone because they are advertising they are looking for work on a platform whose purpose is looking for work that builds those tools as a primary toggle for that specific reason in one of the hardest job seeking environments in certain industries, I think you need to reevaluate your approach to many, many things. I always tell all of you I do things with MANY specific reasons in mind, even if I may not spell them out each time. The reason I have all these public job posts and job seeker listings is exactly that: I'm doing everything I can to ensure there is no stigma in publicly saying "I lost my job. Help me find another one." Honestly, it is mindboggling to me with all the serious, real work left to do to get thousands of people in games back to work that this is a topic that occupies mindspace to the tune of tens of posts I see each month: should you flag yourself as Open To Work if you lost your job and are looking for a new one because how will people react? Let's all grow up and focus on fixing actual problems and if you're actually looking for work, allow me to be the first, amongst many, to support you in saying you should use every tool at your disposal and it's on all the rest of us together to get everybody else to change their attitude and to mature up.

Novy Dhillon liked thisNovy Dhillon liked thisThe best candidate in your pipeline could very well be the one actively looking. You're just too biased to see it. I've spent nearly 15 years recruiting, and I've hired elite teams. Sure, we poached talent. We hired referrals. And I ALWAYS fought for applicants, and diligently reviewed our inbound pipelines. And... I've also ALWAYS been surrounded by hiring teams and recruiters who looked on applicants with borderline reproach. It's psychological dysfunction: hiring teams are interested in that which they are chasing, never in that which is chasing them. Here's the thing about applicants: they actually want the job. It's not rocket science: applicants are more likely to appreciate the job and to do everything in their power to succeed. The same can't always be said about the poached candidate. Fifteen years in, I'm still watching great candidates get dismissed because they had the audacity to apply, and hiring teams tell themselves that they're "discerning" when they're actually just dysfunctional.

Novy Dhillon liked thisNovy Dhillon liked thisI have a soft spot for HR lingo. Job hugging, coffee badging, the big stay and now the latest to catch my eye: career wildflowering. In this Fast Company piece, HiBob’s Macaire Montini, SHRM-SCP, CPSP describes careers that grow sideways across projects and skills before they grow upwards. (She also calls them “career mushrooms”. Less pretty, but they do pop up in unexpected places.) https://lnkd.in/deyXBusK It made me smile, because my career looks a lot like a wildflower patch. Nurse in three countries, co-founder and business partner, program director, consultant, GM, CEO. And the patch is still growing. A few of those moves seemed like detours at the time. We just heard the news about Ubisoft’s Winnipeg closure, and the laying off of many other workers in Montreal, Barcelona, and beyond. It’s devastating. You are some of the most talented individuals in the games industry and the larger tech industry. Choosing to start besszong in the wake of the closure of Ubisoft Halifax was difficult but rewarding. While we haven’t found our own stability and success yet, we have definitely learned a lot about forming a business, governmental support, and a little something about approaching funding partners. If any now former Ubisoft Winnipeg individuals are looking for help starting their own indie studio, please don’t hesitate to reach out, we’d be happy to help in any way we can!

A few weeks ago, gamescom brought together 368,000 visitors from 131 countries and sold out its show floor for the first time in the event's history. For eight Edmonton companies, it was a chance to put their work in front of a global audience. Five of those teams showcased together in the Indie Hall through Edmonton Screen's Summit Push Program: Lucid Rain Studios, COG Studios Inc., Caldera Interactive, Daisy Chain Games, and Olivenaut. For Lucid Rain, that turned into a surprise extended feature on IGN's Awesome Indies Showcase for their game, INFERIUS. Others got there through the Edmonton@Gamescom IP Accelerator, delivered by The Canadian Interactive Alliance / L'Alliance Interactive Canadienne (CIAIC) in partnership with Edmonton Screen, with support from Canada Media Fund | Fonds des médias du Canada. Different studios took different paths this year, but the result was the same: more of Edmonton's video game industry got seen than ever before. Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/gm_mZh2J

My deepest condolences and survivor's guilt to my colleagues impacted by today's layoffs at Epic. The cuts were dramatic and sweeping across all parts of the org I have visibility into; there is no obvious correlation to performance. It's hard not take these things personally (because it IS personal), but if you were affected and are beating yourself up about it just know that someone even more impactful/visible/higher-level than yourself was probably affected as well. I don't expect that will provide much solace, but maybe it's helpful to know that you never had any control over the outcome here.
