Gilliard Lopes reposted thisGilliard Lopes reposted thisHi LinkedIn community! After two years of development, many hardships and also amazing indie dev events, I'm glad to announce that my game Overdeveloped: Requiem was released this last Friday, Sept 25. Working on a prequel to OverDeveloped, my final project for the Game Design program at Vancouver Film School, brought me great lessons on perseverance, organization and designing with (lots of) constraints. I should be working on small improvements on the coming weeks, but overall, I'm happy with the result of my very first self-published project. I also would like to thank the folks at Quiver Games and Full Indie, and many others who tirelessly help with the growth of the game development and the indie scene in Vancouver area. A big thank you for the playtesters too! Without you, this game wouldn't be possible. Without further ado, on to the next project! https://lnkd.in/gkw-qAfA

Gilliard Lopes reposted this🎉 I’m very proud to share that the latest Dungeon Defenders 2 update — Fairy Tales — is now live! 😫 I usually post about every patch we release, but this one is especially meaningful to me. Our team got much smaller this time, and I had to pull some serious production magic to make sure we hit our deadlines. 💪 Throughout this process, we didn’t just grow as a team — we proved that with collaboration, trust, and independence, we can achieve great things. The key was being given the freedom to organize ourselves and apply everything we’ve learned along the way. 🌟 So, what’s new in this update? *The Jester, a brand-new hero with 4 unique defenses and 4 exclusive abilities *5 new skins *1 pet (my personal favorite — a unicorn!) plus an alternate skin *Gold Tower rewards *4 new flairs *A new carnival weapon set *2 new maps *A set of 3 Christmas pets *Chaos Eleven updates 💞 Huge thanks to the whole team — to those who stayed, those who joined, and those who left their mark. This release is a true milestone for all of us. https://lnkd.in/dg6jfmFU

Gilliard Lopes shared thisTomorrow is #InternationalWomensDay #IWD25! I feel very fortunate and thankful to have been mentored, guided and inspired by so many brilliant women throughout my career. Here are a few of them: Alison Gibb, PMP, CSM was my very first manager at EA, and she helped me so much as I tried to find my feet in a new team, company and country. Her example of kind and honest leadership is a blueprint that I have been trying my best to emulate ever since. Cristina Rufeisen was such a generous friend and mentor to me during our time together at the SOMOS EA board. She helped me develop many new skills and offered me the opportunity to add another dimension to my career through diversity, equity, inclusion and community service. Gracie Arenas Strittmatter 🔜 SXSW has been such an inspiration to me, both as a game developer and a DEI champion. I have learned so much from her about allyship, empathy and inclusive communication. Thank you, ladies, and Happy International Women's Day! Let's all celebrate by tagging the outstanding women in our careers in the comments section 👇

Gilliard Lopes reposted thisGilliard Lopes reposted thisMarvel Rivals, a free to play, player vs player hero shooter, hit several milestones on its first day of Season 1: 1. The game reached over 644 thousand concurrent players on Steam, a 33% increase from its launch day a month ago 2. It became the platform's most-played game 3. It is also the top selling game on Steam This is remarkable. Just a day earlier we were impressed it retained 93% players. It then went on to exceed the previous peak by over 163k players. This is genuinely incredible for the Rivals team, hats off to them.

Gilliard Lopes liked thisGilliard Lopes liked thisReally sorry to hear about the layoffs at Full Circle and other layoffs in our industry. To everyone affected. I was in your shoes just a few months ago. I know how hard it is to suddenly figure out what comes next. You’re talented people, and that doesn’t change the work you’ve done or what you bring to a team. I hope your next opportunity comes soon and gives you a place to shine again. Sending love to the Full Circle team and everyone in our industry going through this. You’re not alone. 💛

Gilliard Lopes reacted on thisGilliard Lopes reacted on thisI’ve wrapped up my time at Electronic Arts, and I wanted to share what I’ve been building next. Working at Electronic Arts gave me the opportunity to solve problems alongside talented engineers, artists, designers, and production teams. I’m grateful for that experience and the people I worked with. Now I’m putting that experience into a game of my own: Clutch ’n’ Drag. It’s an arcade drag racer inspired by classic street-racing games the tension of the launch, hitting the right shift, finding a gap in traffic, and deciding when to use your nitrous. I`m super hyped the amazing support of 80 persons in the closed testing for Android, your feedback will be crucial for the development of this game. I’m developing it in Unity and C#, with Android testing underway and a Steam release planned. My work spans the driving systems, rival AI, progression, tuning, UI, and build pipeline. Playing it, finding what feels wrong, and refining it has been a big part of the process.I’ll be sharing gameplay and development updates as it moves toward release. If you enjoy this kind of racing game and would like to help test it, let me know. Gilliard Lopes reacted on thisFor the past 3 years, I had the pleasure to contribute to this project. It was a challenging and meaningful experience, with tons of learning opportunities and the best example I could have ever experienced of what can be done with Unreal Engine 5. Big props to The Coalition for their vision and leadership on this one, and to the Behaviour Interactive team for the hard work put into making it happen. Happy to finally see it in players hands!Gilliard Lopes reacted on thisTwenty years ago, Gears of War began as a brutal fight for survival and became something more: a story about standing together when the world turns dark and having each other's backs when it matters most. With Gears of War: E-Day, we explore the moment that changed Sera forever. Fourteen years before the original Gears of War, young soldiers Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago are returning home from the Pendulum Wars when the Locust Horde erupts from below, shattering everything they know. E-Day is more than the beginning of the Locust War. It is the story of how the brotherhood at the heart of Gears was forged. It is a return to the horror, brutality, and close-quarters intensity that defined the original game. And it lays the foundation for the future of the franchise for years to come. Today, Gears of War: E-Day is available worldwide. Whether you've been with us since day one or are picking up a Lancer for the first time, you're part of the Gears legacy. We can't wait to tell more stories and create new experiences filled with the heart, grit, and camaraderie that have defined this franchise for two decades. www.gearsofwar.com

Simon Préfontaine and 11 Montreal game developers were laid off during a difficult stretch for the industry, with studio closures, scarce openings, and AI reshaping the work they do. Their colleagues marched, wore red, and pushed the employer back to the bargaining table, helping secure better severance for all 12. This GoFundMe was created to bring Montreal’s support closer to what American colleagues won through their own negotiations. The initial CAD 12,000 goal was meant to cover eight weeks of essentials like medication, bills, and utilities. It’s now surpassed that goal, with 10 participating beneficiaries receiving help based on need. 🎮 Thank you to the 52 donors who helped turn solidarity into practical support. Read the full story and share the GoFundMe page so this show of care reaches more people. #GameDevs #WorkerSolidarity https://lnkd.in/gETy-GJb

Alberta's game industry doesn't get built by accident. It gets built through community, mentorship, collaboration, and a lot of people willing to share what they've learned. I first met Cory Sellar at the Edmonton Screen Industries Office wrap-up party last year. Since then, I've become a big fan of the Good Game Edmonton podcast. Cory has a knack for bringing together thoughtful guests and digging into the real stories behind game development careers, studios, successes, and setbacks. That's why I'm especially excited to join Cory Stellar and other Guest Speakers for the fireside chat at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) as part of Edmonton Startup Week. Edmonton Unlimited We'll be talking about what it actually takes to build games in Alberta, how newcomers can break into the industry, what opportunities exist here, and why I believe the future of game development in this province is incredibly bright. Whether you're a student, developer, founder, educator, or simply curious about the industry, we'd love to have you join us. 🎟️ Free registration: Reserve your spot https://luma.com/q0ae9zrw #GameDevYEG #DevYEG #AlbertaGames #GameDev #IndieGames #GameIndustry #EdmontonStartupWeek #NAIT #MadeInAlberta #YEG #TechCommunity
