I have a lot of people asking me about this and I know at some point I even had it in my FAQ but I had to take it out because people weren’t even reading THAT correctly:
If you want to dub my comics, I’m okay with it BUT.
BUT.
Simply putting ‘credit in the description’ is not enough.
Credit me in the dang video itself!! Three seconds! That’s all I ask. At the end or in the beginning - a three second card of ‘Original Comic by @thechekhov on tumblr. Read the full comic on Tapas (link in the description).’
This is the MINIMUM credit I ask for.
I’m sorry I sound so uptight but…
I’ve had too many people dubbing my comic, getting thousands of views/likes etc and their ‘credit’ has been a measly ‘comic by chekhov’ at the bottom of their description. Whomst is chekhov? Where do the watchers find the comic? Nothing.
The sad thing is, most people don’t even LOOK in the description because that’s not how YouTube works. You watch the video, and you get your necessary info FROM THE VIDEO. I scroll through 200 comments of ‘hey where can I read this’ and ‘when are you gonna make more comics?’ as if the video poster is themselves the artist, and an occasional kind person popping in to give a tapas link to these commenters.
Dubbers go through the effort of adding soundscaping to the whole dang comic, add in cutesy little ‘bloopers’ and their own fun characters, go through the trouble of giving THEMSELVES credit and adding on their Patreon IN THE VIDEO ITSELF for 30 seconds, and all I get a mention down in the description.
If you use my art in the video itself, credit me in the damn video as well! Please!
