The Celebrity Traitors final – as it happened

After James Acaster’s bombshell confession and Michael Sheen’s detective work, this series just became completely unpredictable. So who won the game? It’s time to find out

The top 10 Celebrity Traitors moments

Is Celebrity Traitors too nice for its own good?

But surely this places Maya Jama right in everyone’s crosshairs. Everyone is too shocked by Sheen’s murder to formulate a strategy, though.

Well, they only went and blimmin did it, didn’t they? Obviously in retrospect it was always going to be Michael Sheen, because nobody can go as monumentally large as he did last night and get away with it. Remember, rule number one of winning Traitors is that you need to be boring and stupid, and Michael was neither of them.

To baldly go: Patrick Stewart was an icon for bald men everywhere

The actor was an exemplary bald star, embracing his hair loss and the freedoms it brought. He didn’t go grey or recede – and he didn’t wear a wig like William Shatner as Captain Kirk

Patrick Stewart, Star Trek and X-Men actor and acclaimed thespian, dies aged 86

Patrick Stewart managed to be lots of different things at once. He was a towering figure on stage. He was a literal superhero onscreen. And, at times, he wasn’t above sending himself up. It also needs to be said that he was a bald man.

And a pioneering one at that. Nowhere was this more clear than during his stint on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Previously, Star Trek had been a kind of space-set action show, where the relentlessly virile Captain Kirk would beam down to new planets to either punch or get off with all the aliens there. But then came its successor, and Kirk was replaced by a nonviolent intellectual called Jean-Luc. Worse still, he didn’t have any hair. What a sign of weakness.

The Celebrity Traitors: episode nine – as it happened

Did Sharon or Joanne get banished? Are the three traitors still the most trusted people in the castle? Who will make it to the final? It’s time to find out in the penultimate episode

Sheen is gobsmacked, convinced as he is that Sharon Rooney is queen of the traitors. And his way to prove this – which might be consequential – he is going to fully excavate the murder in plain sight. If he does it correctly, it could be curtains for Acaster and Maya.

On the way out, Kenny laments the power of his dagger, and seems sincere about it. But you know what they say; with great power comes a deep sense of regret.

Maya Jama and her fellow hooded murderers seem to be totally flying under the radar so far. Will they continue to evade the faithful tonight?

And it works. Bash is already onto Joanne. Sharon is onto Joanne. Michael Sheen isn’t so sure, and posits that it could be a ploy on the part of the traitors. Even Maya is sad about Miranda, although not so sad that she doesn’t refer to herself as an “OG Trait” in the process.

“Bottoms,” says Miranda as she realises that she’s been murdered, very Miranday. And she’s touching and heartfelt about how much the show has meant to her after overcoming her illness. What a champ. What an all-timer. What bad news this is for Joanne.

I expect you to cry: what the James Bond actors may face at the final audition

Jack Lowden, Callum Turner and Josh O’Connor are rumoured to be the final candidates taking screentests this weekend. So how can they best prepare? And who is likely to triumph?

This weekend, the identity of the next James Bond is finally expected to be known – to the insiders, at least. According to reports, a number of youngish British actors – definitely three, possibly five – will have their final screen tests.

To say it has been a long time coming is an understatement. It is five years since Daniel Craig was killed in a hail of missiles at the end of No Time to Die, and in that time – even long before it – a swarm of actors have been tipped to replace him, only to age out of the role due to a combination of indecisiveness and cutthroat backstage corporate shenanigans. Whoever is declared to be 007 will be joining the franchise after what is likely to be the longest fallow period in the franchise’s 64-year history.

The Celebrity Traitors: episode seven – as it happened

Who got bored to death in the castle – and who was left with extreme yawning paranoia? Here’s how it unfolded

Kemp’s death has rattled everyone. It makes no sense to anyone, least of all Jerry Hall (who survived by the skin of her teeth) who has to be sat down and told that Ross Kemp was murdered.

OK, FLASHBACK TIME! We’re back in the yawning room. Is anyone going to yawn? YES. And it’s ROSS KEMP. The man who was hysterically paranoid about being murdered in plain sight has been murdered in plain sight. As he dies, he quotes Shakespeare. It’s the famous part of Romeo and Juliet where Benvolio freaks out because Bella Ramsey puts a hat on him.

Wonderhaul: has Liam Gallagher really got into metal detecting?

The Oasis frontman and famous fibber has claimed on social media that he is a budding detectorist. Some might say it’s a perfect fit, but either way, the gentle pastime is booming in the UK

Liam Gallagher is one of the country’s foremost trendsetters. When Oasis emerged in the 1990s, you couldn’t move for the sight of young men doing their darndest to look like him – wearing parkas and swaggering around as if they had just wolfed down a breakfast that didn’t agree with them.

Which is to say, we should probably expect stocks of metal detectors to run low in the coming days, because Gallagher has apparently outed himself as a keen detectorist. “I’m a big fan of the metal detector phenomenon,” he tweeted on Sunday, adding in a separate message that: “I do it for the buzz n the bing.”

‘We’ll keep doing this if people pay us!’ The cast of TV hit Ghosts on making a movie – and maybe a caveman spinoff

As the haunters of Button House hit the big screen with a plot about an escaped phantom, we hear how the team just missed each other too much – and why grunting Robin may get his own show

When the final episode of Ghosts was aired in December 2023, the sitcom felt as if it had reached a definitive conclusion. The show’s central relationships, between Charlotte Ritchie’s Alison and the ghosts who haunt her tumbledown inherited manor house, were neatly tied up, as they encouraged her to sell the place to a hotel developer. It was a tearjerker of an episode for the millions of people who watched it, as well as for the cast and crew behind the scenes.

“We had stopped the series with genuinely no intention of coming back,” explains the show’s co-creator Mathew Baynton, who also stars as the callow romantic poet Thomas. “We were all in tears on the last day of filming,” he says, now perched on the uncomfortable end of a chaise lounge in a London hotel suite.

Pedigree chums: why the movies are killing off fewer dogs

Are film-makers wary of alienating increasingly sensitive audiences by offing a pooch? Or is humanity now just too soft to deal with the trauma of a Turner & Hooch?

There was a time, not so long ago, when watching a film was a clearcut experience. There would be a good guy and a bad guy, and you would know who the bad guy was because they would shoot a dog in the face.

It happened more times than you might expect. Mad Max 2, dog gets shot. Revenge, dog gets shot. Turner & Hooch, dog gets shot. Red, dog gets shot. Man with the Gun, dog gets shot. Badlands, dog gets shot. Dog Soldiers, you’ll never guess.

They’ve already taken out two traitors – but now Kenny has gone to the dark side. How will the faithfuls fare tonight?

In the quick pre-mission gossip session, every single person within fifteen miles of the castle just tacitly agrees to vote Joe Lycett off later. But let’s not forget that Joanne shot herself in the foot at the roundtable yesterday, so maybe he’ll be saved.

Claudia comes in and tells everyone that they need to use their heads. Is this a hint about the mission, or is she just trying to steer Jerry and Joanne back into the realms of competency? Time will tell.

Join us here for every single moment of treachery and backstabbing

Romesh enters, and explains everything. Flashback to last night: the traitors knock on a Rob’s door. Ross Kemp leaves to freak about nothing for another day, while Rob Beckett is brown bread.

Because now it’s breakfast. Maya, Hannah, Michael and James Blunt sit down and grimace. Joe Lycett knocks on the door so hard that he hurts his hand, and then becomes excited about eggs. James Acaster enters, eats a boiled egg with his bare hands and declares that he enjoys murdering people eye to eye. And then Leigh-Anne enters and explains everything.

‘Don’t do this!’ Why Paul McCartney cares about looking shorter than John Lennon in Sam Mendes’ Beatles films

You’re Paul McCartney. So how come you’re still getting het up at a fictional version of you being marginally smaller than a fictional version of John Lennon?

There has been a lot of discourse and conjecture surrounding Sam Mendes’s forthcoming Beatles biopics. Some of this is logical (will people really turn out to see four near-identical films on the same day?), some creative (what animal did they have to shave to make John Lennon’s Abbey Road beard?). At every turn the film has been examined and factchecked and cross-referenced against testimonies from the band’s actual hairdresser.

But until now the remaining Beatles have managed to keep fairly quiet about the whole thing. Last year Ringo Starr mentioned that he’d sat down with Mendes to rework a scene he wasn’t happy with, and Paul McCartney has praised the guitar playing of Paul Mescal, but it appeared that no real red lines had been crossed. Until now.

The faithful have banished one traitor and one of their own. Will they have any more luck tonight?

Oh no. Bella was my favourite. Their problem, obviously, is that they were too smart for their own good. There is no faster way to be murdered on The Traitors than being good at The Traitors. When will these people learn?

Here we go. Last night the traitors murdered… BELLA.

Be more Jagger? How BBC’s Matt Brittin could follow up Elvis appeal to staff

Director general called for ‘a little less conversation, a little more action’ – but from what other songs could he draw inspiration?

The BBC director general, Matt Brittin, has started the job at a time of huge crisis. Money is short, jobs are being cut and it’s likely entire channels will be culled to stem the tide. This is a moment that requires great motivational charisma, which is why, in a recent all-staff call, he urged BBC employees to be “a bit more Elvis – a little less conversation, a little more action”.

Clearly, this isn’t great. But maybe this is how things are now. Perhaps, if you really want to unite a flagging workforce against a vast and inevitable decline, you need to start quoting song lyrics at them. With that in mind, here are some more that Brittin could use in his next call.

Jerry Hall deserves murder on Celebrity Traitors – but legends live beyond logic | Stuart Heritage

Her unintentional buffoonery and disregard for the game makes Hall this season’s incredible agent of chaos

By rights, Jerry Hall should not still be a participant on The Celebrity Traitors. If there was any justice in the world, the traitors would have murdered her in cold blood at the very start of this Thursday’s episode. The fact they did not speaks volumes about what an absolute legend the woman is.

The crime that should have condemned her to death happened on last Friday’s show, during a mission where everyone had to be buried alive with a partner. Contestants had to choose between waiting to be dug up, or shouting the word “haggis”, which would release them but also make them eligible to be murdered. Needless to say, Hall shouted “haggis” approximately one solitary nanosecond after the game started. Nobody else shouted “haggis”. For sheer weakness in the face of adversity, she deserved to die.

Good night, and good lick: what can we expect from George Clooney’s restaurant?

The newly-official French citizen is planning to open an Italian restaurant in Provence. Will it float like his tequila brand or sink as swiftly as the Steven Spielberg submarine eatery that made one reviewer ‘embarrassed to be human’?

The Provençal village of Cotignac is not wanting for places to eat. Within a short drive of its pale stone houses, you can find a wealth of high-end dining options. La Table de Mentone, set within the beautiful Château Mentone wine estate, is famed for the produce it grows on site. The Michelin-starred Restaurant Bruno offers dazzling variations of truffle dishes. More locally, Picotte Provence offers the sort of charming village dining that showcases the best of what the region has to offer.

However, despite all these wonderful options, there is one thing that Cotignac does not yet boast, and that’s a celebrity vanity project. But that is all about to change, thanks to the news that George Clooney is planning to open a restaurant there.

The Celebrity Traitors: episode two – as it happened

James Acaster and Amol Rajan ended last night’s episode in coffins – but which one will be murdered? And which will end up having to distract from Richard E Grant’s big mouth?

Almost everyone else is here now. Ross Kemp points at some toast, because he thought he was toast. Or brown bread. Or a soldier. Weirdly bread-themed, Ross Kemp. Won’t be able to unsee that now.

Uh oh. Professor Hannah Fry has suspicions about Leigh-Anne, because she put make-up on quite late at night. Add this to Ross Kemp’s total panic about Leigh-Anne touching him yesterday, and she’s starting to look in danger.

Richard E Grant has one hope of lasting on Celebrity Traitors: leaning into his eccentricity | Stuart Heritage

Chats with inanimate objects, farting into Tupperware: this cornered animal must sell his confession as just another quirk

As we all know, The Traitors is a game of deception. The entire point is to conceal your true motivations in order to better carry out a series of murders undetected. This is the way it should be, and the way it always was. And then Richard E Grant came along.

Grant’s trajectory during the opening episode of Celebrity Traitors was as follows. Step one: be selected as a traitor by Claudia Winkleman. Step two: immediately tell everyone you are a traitor.

TV’s best entertainment show is back – with an unbelievably star-stuffed lineup. But who will be the faithful and who will head straight for the tower?

Episode one review: ‘Ross Kemp really needs to get a grip’

Michael Sheen is the first contestant we meet, the man with the dramatic heft to really sell that he isn’t actually going to spend the next few night sleeping at an Inverness airport hotel.

Then Maja Jama, then Joe Lycett, then all the others. Julie admits that she’s easily starstruck, James Blunt comes in dressed in a wedding rental suit. Nobody wants to sit next to Jerry Hall.
