It’s really hard to eat a steak when you haven’t any thumbs. Statler’s doing his best.

Yea to be expected with how little they are trusted, guess we are eating good for information this chapter
Ssssiiiiiippyy!!
“I have asked you here tonight to collect DNA samples for a paternity test. My bugbear friend is en route from America with Maury Povich in the trunk of their car.”
Hehe… I could see that, but would he really *want* to get such a specific answer…? 8-)
Boot. Ike’s friends would be more likely to say boot than trunk. That said, putting Maury Povich in a car trunk (or boot, if you’re on that side of the pond) would probably be a lot easier than resisting the temptation to just leave him in there.
Nah. Last anyone saw him, Ike’s dad was still apparently in human disguise. It’s possible something has happened since then, but as far as we know (and likely as far as Ike knows), it’s unlikely either of these two are his dear dad.
Plot twist: Maury Povich is a magically disguised manticore… and also Ike’s dad.
Now I’m picturing a car in the hold of a passenger liner, with somebody stuffed into the trunk/boot. Such a comfy voyage!
I was picturing them traveling by map alla The Muppet Show. They pull into the Avalon, open the boot full of water, fish, and crabs and go, “Well, didn’t think that over very well.”
Yeah but Statler has teeth capable of eating the table so I’m not surprised he can eat one whole.
And stop killing me with suspense! I wanna hear about your manticores! Mine are so different! (Corrupt Sphinxes, yeah I couldn’t resist the bat wings.)
For someone who’s friends with Alec, they’re REALLY trying his patience.
I rather think he needs an almost saintly amount of patience to survive a friendship with Alec to begin with! ;-)
So he has training.
I wonder if they are really friends. They look more like acquaintances because the Avalon is a small world, but not talking buddies.
Given how they were hanging out during The Bugbear Talisman story, they seem to be buddies.
I suspect Ike puts up with Alec because at least Alec doesn’t treat him any differently than he treats anyone else. While we haven’t seen a ton of anti-manticore prejudice (outside of his mother), it clearly had an effect on him (per his discussion with Anthony). Alec’s a bit of an asshole, but he’s exactly the sort of asshole to Ike that he is to everyone else.
They’re testing him to see how serious he is about this project– and to get much free food & drink they can. Judging from the shift in attitudes and expressions it looks like they’re going to be straight with him now that they’ve had their fun.
Testing or trying to take advantage of as many free meals as they can get. It’s disheartening when he’s already explained his reasons and situation to them and they seem to be flat out ignoring him.
Given how yhey’re usually treated by Avalonians, it’s understandable they might be seeing if he’s really sincere. Or at least looking for their first hot meal in who knows how long.
as a manticore fan, i am also excited to learn about skin deep manticores 8D
The man just wants to learn a bit of the other side of his family and you got to respact that.
“For example, here it says that with 200 gold pieces, a manticore can be upgraded to a scorpicore. I’ve never even heard of a scorpicore before; that can’t be real.”
Ooooo, I like this a lot better than my (apparently wrong) theory about the reason for the interview. Ike the anthropologist of Manticore culture…
Just got my copy of obverse & reverse in the mail. Came as a surprise, kinda forgot i’d backed the thing. Also, my mind has been autocorrecting it to observe & reverse this entire time. Thought for a moment there was a print error. Lol.
