At the start of a new MyCareer playthrough in PGA Tour 2K25, you’re given a choice on how to start your golfer’s journey. You can either send them straight to the tour, immediately tossing them into the limelight, or start them in local circuits with far less pressure and judging eyes. If you choose the latter of those two options, you have some additional choices to make.
You’re able to start your golfer in three different small-time tours, with each one subsequently featuring tougher competition. It’s up to you to decide where you start your golfer’s career, but it can be difficult to know what choice to make. Do you head straight to the pros and just figure things out along the way or do you start with the small-time tours so you can refine your skills?
Below, we’ll go over all of your starting options in PGA Tour 2K25 and offer some recommendations on which one you should pick.
All Starting Options In PGA Tour 2K25

As we mentioned above, there are four different starting points you can choose from immediately after going through the character creator in MyCareer. Those four options are:
- Q-School
- Korn Ferry Tour
- Korn Ferry Tour Championship
- PGA Tour
The last option, the PGA Tour, is the one that stands out from the rest. Selecting this option sends your golfer straight to the big show, and you’re immediately thrust into competition with the world’s best competitors.
However, the first three options all offer your golfer a chance to start with smaller tournaments. These don’t have nearly the competition of the PGA Tour and allow your golfer to make a name for themselves before reaching the big tour. You can also use the smaller tournaments to hone your skills, learn the Archetype you chose in MyCareer, or simply understand the mechanics in PGA Tour 2K25.
An important distinction to make when selecting your starting path in MyCareer is that the decision you make can’t be undone. This means as soon as you pick whatever option to start with, you’re locked into that choice for the rest of MyCareer. If you choose one of the smaller tours but quickly realize you’re ready to be on the PGA Tour, you can’t switch to that option after making your character.
So, to get a better idea of where you should start, we have some suggestions for players of skill levels below.
Best Starting Points For All Golfers In MyCareer

Naturally, where you start in MyCareer should mostly be based around the skill level you feel you’re at in PGA Tour 2K25. If you’re a complete beginner in golf’s virtual world, then you really want to select Q-School or the Korn Ferry Tour. These tours give you ample time to learn the game’s mechanics, understand how your golfer behaves, and let you make mistakes before they start to become costly.
If you start in Q-School or either of the Korn Ferry Tours, then you’re also given the chance to level up your golfer and start to fill in their attribute points. This provides your golfer with a stronger chance against the competition once you reach the PGA Tour. If you head straight to the PGA Tour without any experience, then your golfer will be like a guppy in a pond full of massive goldfish. While you can certainly hold your own if you have the skill, you’ll simply be at a disadvantage, plain and simple.
Of course, if you’ve been playing PGA Tour for years and you don’t feel the need to start with the smaller tournaments, then you can really challenge yourself by heading straight to the big tour. Your character will be at the default level while all of the other golfers around you will have fairly high OVR ratings.
Unless you’re the next coming of Tiger, you’ll likely struggle at the start, as your character doesn’t have the stats to hit the ball as far or accurately as they need to to keep up with the competition. However, if you’re a good enough player, you’ll quickly rack up levels to better match the golfers on the tour. From there, it’s all about your skill and whether or not you can keep up the level of play in MyCareer.
In the end, your starting path choice can boil down to the following points:
- If you’re a true beginner, start with Q-School to give yourself enough time to learn the basics and level up. You can also pick this option if you want your golfer to have a truly realistic experience, as most golfers need to play in a variety of smaller tournaments before they’re even close to ready for the larger tours
- If you’ve played golf in real life or you’re coming back to PGA Tour after a long break, choose one of the Korn Ferry Tours. They’re a little more difficult than Q-School, but as long as you know the basics, you’ll be okay
- If you’re a veteran or someone who doesn’t want to waste time in MyCareer, choose the PGA Tour right away. You’ll face steep competition, but your skills will eventually break through that wall if they’re strong enough
And that’s all we have on how you should start your journey in PGA Tour 2K25 MyCareer. It’s all about your skill level and how realistic a playthrough you want, but you can also make the choice about time management as well.
