Colleen Cassity’s Post

The Well Done Foundation is helping communities confront the legacy of orphaned oil and gas wells, plugging wells that can release harmful methane and restoring the land around them. Their work protects air, water, and soil, but it also reflects something deeper: a commitment to leave a place better than we found it.   I’m grateful for the expertise and determination of the people making that commitment real, one well at a time. We’re honored to support the Well Done Foundation and its important work. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gkUK_nX5

What an amazing opportunity to work with Colleen Cassity and the entire team at Oracle, plugging #orphanwells and making a difference #onewellatatime. #weareplugging #communityimpact #jobs #plugbabyplug

The restoration side of this is genuinely important, but I wonder how much of the orphaned well problem keeps growing while we plug them one at a time. There are hundreds of thousands of these wells across the US alone, and the rate of abandonment hasn't really slowed down. Foundations like this do necessary cleanup work, but without regulatory changes that force operators to fund decommissioning upfront, it stays a permanent game of catch-up funded by goodwill instead of the companies that created the liability.
