Your FP&A team is building irrelevance one five year plan at a time. While they're modeling next year's margin expansion, your business is deciding quarterly priorities that will make those plans obsolete. FP&A becomes a compliance function because it's not speaking to how your business actually operates. The disconnect isn't intentional, it's structural. They're optimizing for precision while the market is optimizing for speed. The real problem is nobody connected FP&A output to the decisions that actually matter. CFO-level reporting requires visibility into cash flow timing that matches how your business actually operates: https://lnkd.in/dQnHymX8. Most CFOs are still getting variance reports two weeks late instead of rolling forecasts that keep pace with reality. How many FP&A hours this month went into models nobody's going to reference in actual decision-making? #CFOLeadership #FinanceStrategy #FP&A #Leadership #FinanceManagement #CFOInsights #StrategicFinance #BusinessLeadership #valusage #valusagebusiness #valusagebusinessadvisors

Sunday thought: meetings. If your calendar is packed all week, when do you actually get the work done? FP&A doesn’t need more meetings. It needs better ones. → Clear purpose → Right people → Decisions, not status updates → Fewer “quick calls” that somehow take an hour Sometimes the most productive meeting is the one you don’t schedule. What’s the meeting you’d happily delete from your calendar? 😅 #FP&A #Finance #Leadership #Productivity

The CFO role has never been more strategic, but has compensation kept up? We're proud to see our Global CFO Practice Group Leader, Cathy Logue, FCPA, FCA, ICD.D, featured in Bloomberg's latest CFO Briefing: "CFO Pay Is Rising, but CEOs Are Pulling Away", exploring the growing pay gap between CEOs and CFOs while highlighting the expanding influence of today's finance leaders. As Cathy notes: "Boards still see the CEO as the primary driver for value creation." "More companies recruit CFOs who have the capacity to become CEO." As more CFOs become enterprise leaders and CEO successors, it will be fascinating to watch how executive compensation continues to evolve. Thank you to Nina Trentmann for including Cathy's insights in this thoughtful analysis. Every quarterly result tells you what happened. Great finance leaders ask what didn't happen. When businesses review quarterly performance, the spotlight naturally falls on revenue, profitability, and growth. But I've found that some of the most valuable insights lie in the opportunities that never materialized. Ask questions like: Which growth initiatives failed to gain traction—and why? Which customers did we lose before they showed up in the numbers? Which strategic investments were delayed because of slow decision-making? Which risks did we identify but fail to act on? Finance is often seen as the function that measures outcomes. I believe its greater role is to uncover missed opportunities. A missed acquisition, delayed product launch, or postponed technology investment rarely appears as a separate line item in the financial statements. Yet these decisions can have a greater long-term impact than a temporary decline in earnings. This is where modern finance leadership creates value—not just by analyzing historical performance, but by helping the business recognize the cost of inaction. The best board discussions don't end with, "Why did this happen?" They continue with, "What are we not doing today that could define our success three years from now?" Because in business, the biggest risk is often not making a bad decision—it is delaying a good one. #FinanceLeadership #CFO #BusinessStrategy #CorporateFinance #Leadership

A CFO sees a business differently. Where some people see expenses, a CFO sees investments. Where others see a busy month, a CFO sees trends. Where some see a successful quarter, a CFO asks, "Can we repeat it?" It's not about being skeptical. It's about understanding what drives sustainable success. What's one question you think more leaders should ask before making a big decision? #CFO

Budget Season is About to Begin... 📊 It's that time of the year when businesses start planning for the next 12 months. One thing I've learned over the years in Finance: a good budget isn't about predicting the future perfectly. It's about making better decisions today. As we begin the planning cycle, my focus remains on: ✅ Challenging assumptions ✅ Aligning numbers with strategy ✅ Protecting cash flow ✅ Building realistic scenarios ✅ Partnering closely with the business The budget is more than a financial exercise. It's a roadmap for growth, profitability, and long-term success. Wishing everyone in Finance, FP&A, and business leadership a successful budgeting season ahead. #Budgeting #FPandA #Finance #BusinessPartnering #FinancialPlanning #Leadership #BudgetSeason #StrategicFinance

📊 Finance That Drives Action Wednesday A report has little value if it doesn't lead to a decision. Finance teams work hard to produce accurate financial statements, dashboards, and forecasts. But accuracy alone isn't the finish line. The real question is: What action should this information drive? The most valuable financial reports don't overwhelm leaders with data. They highlight what matters most. They identify emerging risks. They reveal opportunities. And they give decision-makers the confidence to move forward. I've found that finance delivers its greatest value when we shift the conversation from "Here's what happened" to "Here's what we recommend." That's where finance becomes a strategic partner. That's what Finance That Drives Action means to me. Question for finance leaders: How do you ensure your financial reporting leads to action instead of simply informing? #FinanceThatDrivesAction #StrategicFinance #DecisionMaking #BusinessPartner #Leadership #Finance #CFO #Controller

The most valuable thing Finance can provide isn’t a perfect forecast. It’s a better decision. A forecast can tell you where the business may land. Strong FP&A goes a step further: • What is actually driving the result? • Which assumptions have changed? • Where are the risks and opportunities? • What levers can leadership pull? • And what happens if we choose A instead of B? Some of the most rewarding work I’ve done in Finance has been taking a large amount of financial and operational information and turning it into something a business leader can actually use. That’s why I’ve always enjoyed scenario planning, forecasting and business partnership more than simply reporting what already happened. The numbers matter. But the decision they help someone make matters more. #FPandA #StrategicFinance #FinanceBusinessPartner #FinancialPlanning #FinancialAnalysis
