First things first, let's start with some background information about what SAP S/4HANA actually is. For starters, SAP SE is the name of the company that was founded in 1972 in Walldorf, Germany. Since then, SAP has become the world's largest provider of enterprise application software. SAP has many products under the corporate umbrella, including Concur for expense management, Ariba for Procurement, SuccessFactors for Human Resources, Joule for AI Assistance, and SAP S/4HANA, the focus of this course. SAP S/4HANA is the most recent Enterprise Resource Planning, or ERP, offering from SAP. ERP systems manage the critical day-to-day activities in all business areas from supply chain to finance to human resources. The phrase HANA in SAP S/4HANA is the name of SAP's in-memory database. What that means for us is that the system is significantly faster than older SAP systems and it can process and analyze lots of data in real time.
