ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Millwork Engineering Manager to lead and elevate our millwork engineering and drafting department at our Gilbert facility. This role is responsible for overseeing the team that produces all construction and shop drawings while driving standardization, efficiency, and manufacturability across the engineering process.


This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who understands how millwork is built — not just drawn — and who is passionate about improving systems, developing people, and strengthening collaboration between engineering and production.


The ideal candidate will bring structure, accountability, and technical expertise to take the department to the next level, ensuring high-quality output, predictable schedules, and scalable processes that support company growth.


KEY RESPONISIBILITIES

Department Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the millwork engineering and drafting team.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
  • Manage department workload, staffing, and scheduling to meet production timelines.
  • Develop team capabilities with a focus on manufacturability and practical construction methods.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Engineering Operations

  • Oversee creation and release of all construction drawings, shop drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Review and approve engineering output to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality standards.
  • Implement standardized drafting practices, templates, and workflows.
  • Drive process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce rework.
  • Ensure drawings align with production capabilities and installation requirements.

Production Collaboration

  • Build strong working relationships with production, project management, and operations teams.
  • Ensure engineering solutions support efficient fabrication and assembly.
  • Act as the primary liaison between engineering and manufacturing.
  • Promote a “design for manufacturability” mindset across the drafting team.

Process Improvement & Standardization

  • Evaluate current department structure and implement scalable systems and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, SOPs, and documentation protocols.
  • Improve communication flow between departments to reduce bottlenecks.
  • Establish quality control checkpoints throughout the engineering process.

Vendor & Outsourcing Management

  • Identify and evaluate external engineering partners for overflow drafting work.
  • Develop processes for outsourcing while maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Manage relationships and performance of external partners when utilized.


TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain advanced proficiency in 2D and 3D AutoCAD.
  • Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to the drafting team.
  • Review complex millwork designs for structural integrity and manufacturability.
  • Support value engineering initiatives when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience in millwork engineering, drafting, or related field.
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong understanding of millwork construction methods, materials, and fabrication processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (2D & 3D).
  • Experience producing and reviewing shop drawings and construction documents.
  • Proven ability to manage schedules, workflows, and team output.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in custom architectural millwork or commercial fabrication environments.
  • Experience implementing process improvements or departmental restructuring.
  • Familiarity with CNC manufacturing processes.
  • Experience managing outsourced drafting or engineering resources.
