Position Summary

The Director of Survey leads the Survey Department and ensures the successful delivery of survey projects. This role provides strategic and operational leadership through project oversight, staff development, financial accountability, business development, scheduling, and quality control. The Director works closely with company leadership to support business goals, develop staff, and deliver quality products to internal and external clients.

  • Ability to review project budgets, financial performance, and projections.

  • Ability to develop client relationships and support business development.
  • Mentor, train, and develop Survey staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, support, mentor, and develop Survey staff.
  • Improve Survey processes, efficiency, accountability, and performance.
  • Work with the Business Development Team to identify and prioritize Survey pursuits.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and identify opportunities for Survey services.
  • Participate in client meetings and business development activities as needed.
  • Review Survey project profit/loss and financial performance.
  • Create and maintain monthly project projections consistent with other project teams.
  • Review Survey proposal fees.
  • Oversee Survey project delivery, quality, schedules, budgets, and final deliverables Troubleshoot project issues and resolve conflicts within the Survey Group.
  • Manage daily scheduling of Survey field crews and office staff.
  • Coordinate resources to balance project needs and staff workloads.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Review annual needs for conferences, certifications, and outside training.
  • Develop the annual Survey staff training budget
  • Review and approve Survey staff timesheets and expenses.
  • Monitor staff utilization and workload and participate in employee reviews.
  • Communicate Survey department needs and performance to company leadership.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Professional Surveyor (PS) license required.
  • 10+ years of progressive surveying experience.
  • 5+ years of Survey leadership or management experience preferred.
  • Experience managing survey projects, field crews, and office staff.
  • Experience with project financial management, budgeting, and projections preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of surveying principles, standards, and industry practices.
  • Proficiency with surveying equipment, software, and technology.
  • Strong project management, financial, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop Survey professionals.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
