Job Overview
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is a critical leadership role and key successor position to the General Manager, operating as a strategic and operational partner across all facets of the business.
This role goes beyond day-to-day store leadership and is ideal for a leader who thrives in complex, high-volume, multi-brand environments and is energized by driving large-scale, high-impact initiatives. The AGM plays a pivotal role in executing transformational projects that elevate the store experience, including major capital investments, space redesigns, and cross-functional operational priorities.
The ideal candidate brings a unique combination of strong commercial acumen, operational leadership, and hands-on experience managing complex projects in partnership with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams. They are equally comfortable leading the business, influencing stakeholders, and being on the ground ensuring flawless execution.
This individual will operate as a true generalist with broad exposure across the business, while also taking ownership of key strategic priorities that shape the future of the store. Success in this role requires the ability to navigate competing priorities, lead through influence, and deliver results in a fast-paced, multi-dimensional retail environment.
Essential Functions
Drive overall store performance, delivering on key metrics including sales, client development, loyalty, and omnichannel execution.
Partner with the General Manager to lead and execute high-impact, cross-functional initiatives that support the evolution of the store, including large-scale renovations, floor redesigns, and capital projects.
Lead end-to-end execution of complex projects, collaborating closely with internal partners (Merchandising, Visual, Operations, Marketing, Finance) as well as external vendors and contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to brand standards.
Navigate and manage the operational complexity of a multi-brand environment, balancing competing priorities across categories, brands, and stakeholders.
Leverage data, customer insights, and on-the-ground intelligence to identify opportunities and drive localized strategies that improve performance and customer experience.
Partner with Operations leadership to manage store-controlled profit and loss components, including payroll, expenses, and shortage.
Champion a customer-centric culture, setting the tone for elevated service and ensuring consistent execution of luxury and high-touch client experiences.
Develop and lead a high-performing leadership team; provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development to build a strong bench for future leadership roles.
Influence and align cross-functional partners to drive execution of merchant strategies while ensuring relevance to the store’s unique customer.
Serve as a visible and engaged leader on the floor, ensuring operational excellence and seamless customer experience.
Drive adoption and optimization of selling tools and technology to enhance productivity and customer engagement.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and inclusivity, driving engagement and retention across the store.
Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university.
5+ years direct experience.
Experience operating within a multi-brand or department store environment is required. Candidates from mono-brand environments must demonstrate prior experience working within a multi-brand retail setting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, write and interpret instructional documents such as reports and procedure manuals.
Must have above average mathematical skills, including the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
Strong critical thinkers with a strategic mindset. Proven ability to put in place multifaceted retail strategies that support and drive business outcomes.
Strong leadership profile, business acumen and customer service orientation. A proven influencer with experience leading in a dynamic, fast-paced store retail environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs. Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.
