SciAps, Inc. is a Boston area instrumentation company specializing in high performance portable analytical instruments. Our mission is to provide durable, field-tested, portable instruments to identify any compound, any mineral, any element — anyplace. Current product portfolio consists of LIBS, XRF and VIS-NIR technologies.

 

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to take on the role of Applications Scientist and help us advance our VIS-NIR product line. These products are used across a wide range of industries including mining and exploration, agriculture, and research. The ideal candidate has a strong desire to devote their scientific talent to a wide variety of industry and academic applications through cutting-edge handheld and portable instrumentation. 

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Become an expert in the analytical interpretation and applications of the SciAps VIS-NIR products to support the growth of the business
  • Work closely with sales team and customers to understand application requirements. Support customers with analytical and calibration challenges using chemometrics and machine learning models
  • Support the advancement of algorithm development through characterization testing, analysis, and close collaboration with product development team
  • Support sales team with demonstrations and customer trainings
  • Create documentation for calibration processes and analytical Quality Assurance procedures. Ensure the accuracy of documentation as well.
  • Provide prompt calibration and analytical support to manufacturing department as required
  • Characterize and refine new applications and custom calibrations. Write application reports and share/present to our customers and internally within SciAps
  • Develop a foundational technical understanding of SciAps other product lines (XRF and LIBS). There will be opportunities to work with all three techniques

 

Skills and Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience, ideally with spectroscopy and/or analytical instrumentation
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting VIS-NIR spectra, either as an end-user within industry or while working for an instrumentation manufacturer
  • Proficiency with chemometric modeling and/or machine learning algorithms for spectroscopy applications
  • Background in spectral geology is a plus
  • Self-starter with superior analytical and experimental skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to deal with a dynamic environment where priorities can change frequently depending on the needs of the business

 

Education:

  • Required: BS Physics, Geology, Chemistry, or other hard science 

 

Travel:

  • Up to 25% Travel required


Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Expected pay range is between $70k-$120k per year
