Two years ago, I was laid off just ten weeks before my daughter was born. Like many others, I did what I had to—found contract work that turned into a full-time role, poured myself into it, and made it work. I excelled. I received awards and recognition for the game-changing work that I did... but then my role was eliminated last November. Since then, I’ve been job searching, taking part-time work, driving for DoorDash and Instacart, while raising our toddler, whom we had to pull out of daycare at the beginning of the year when no new jobs materialized. I've attended conferences, done networking, and volunteered my time pro bono in the hopes it would turn into referrals. I've done everything I can to get our family back on stable ground. But it didn't work. Now we've reached the tipping point, and I'm swallowing my pride and posting this public request for help finding a new job. I'm embarrassed. For years, I’ve been the one to give my time, energy, and resources to others when they were in need... through mentorship, community building, or just being the person who shows up. I'm hoping that through this last-ditch act of humility, I can receive the same support I've shown to others. Recently, my husband was able to land a job, and we’re incredibly grateful, but he won't start that job until next week, and his income will only cover our utilities, meaning that we are still facing foreclosure at the end of the month. We've already exhausted my retirement savings, and to make matters worse, we aren’t eligible for Medicaid or Medicare. We urgently need stable health insurance, especially for our two-year-old. I'm actively looking for full-time work in: - Technical Solutions Consulting - Content Operations - Program or Project Management I was a frontend web developer, but I haven’t been actively developing for the past few years. Still, I bring deep technical fluency, cross-functional experience, and a strong track record of helping organizations grow through systems thinking, collaboration, and customer care. I’m open to remote, hybrid, or in-office roles in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. If you know of an opportunity, a referral, or someone I should talk to, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Lauren Kelly shared thisThis is a wonderful reminder for all of us - In order to do our best and live our best lives, we have to take care of ourselves. Everyday. Sleep enough (and if you feel like there could never be enough sleep, go get a sleep study done!) Eat as healthy as you can. Stay hydrated. Exercise/go outside. All in moderation. And, step by step, the rest of the challenges we're facing (voluntarily or otherwise) will become more manageable - because we'll be in better shape to manage them! At least that's the way I feel when I'm able to maintain that routine... Sometimes, though, it's too easy to tell myself that "Just one day won't matter!" and deprioritize them for things like work, traveling, holidays, etc. And then I feel like a 🦥 It's so important that we get back to those basics as soon as possible.Lauren Kelly shared thisI fell off my routine this summer. Work piled up, travel was back-to-back, and days were bleeding together, which led to my fitness taking a hit. This happens to all of us and it's refreshingly human. I'm sharing what I am doing in the moment and what follows to get my footing back: // In the moment 💤 Sleep with consistency. I maximized every opportunity for sleep for up to 8 hours. I discovered that 2 consecutive days with 8 hours of sleep is enough of a reset for me - find yours with an emphasis on consistency. 🥑 Keep healthy eating habits. My summer was filled with gelato stops and hearty breakfasts. I forced myself to get at least a walk if not a run in to balance these days out. Ice water helped me curb snack cravings between calls, which my kids would say is just sad! 🚥 Narrow exercise windows. Get out while you can especially if it’s earlier in the day. Any option I had to mix social or family time with movement was a top priority. On runs, I would add in 20 second burst sprints. // Looking ahead 🦚 Avoid injury. This is not a race - it’s about lifestyle for me. I had personal goals for flexibility and strength this year. Stretching a few times a day is going to be key to getting my workout frequency back. 🏁 Preserve mental fortitude. Getting back into sessions is going to be discouraging initially. Shifting the perspective, this rebound is about blowing past my priors not getting back to benchmarks. I’m fine being patient - it will all be worth it! I'm very grateful for my time at Sift and all of the things I've learned over the last 3 and a half years. That said, I'm starting to look for my next opportunity, preferably in fraud risk management. Sometimes it's hard to believe myself, but I've been in fraud management roles for 20 years now. My very first role was being a call center Team Lead for the fraud ops team at GSI Commerce (now Radial). GSI was the first company I joined the summer after I graduated high school. Since then I've only held roles working on fraud challenges and I've seen the risk world from the lens of merchant, card issuer, payment network and solution provider. The difference betweeen "How can I best support you" and "We need to talk about your perfomance" makes the difference between someone who will feel comfortable asking for clarification around a deliverable, which they will work on independently and deliver with confidence - and someone who will be afraid to move forward without your signoff on each step. I'll never forget the moment in grad school when my advisor told me "I think you need to reassess your priorities" regarding my attempts to balance getting a PhD and taking care of my family. I didn't complete that program (I didn't end up choosing wisely, per the Ivory Tower), but I did raise 3 kind, thoughtful, and inquisitive children that are now productive members of society (okay, mostly productive...). But those words stuck me with. Those words still strike fear. Those words still hold me back from doing my best work, because I'm always wondering if I'm making the right choices balancing projects, balancing work/life, balancing how I support my teams. How different things could have been if he'd just asked "How can I support you?"Lauren Kelly shared thisLeadership through fear isn't leadership. It's a recipe for toxic culture. Fear might drive short-term results, but it's not worth the long-term damage. When people are afraid, they choose: - safety over success - silence over solutions - survival over excellence. What to avoid as a leader: ❌ Creating fear around job security: ↳ Avoid saying, "Many people would love to have your role." ❌ Using subtle threats: ↳ Drop the "We need to talk about your career here" tactics. ❌ Manufacturing pressure: ↳ Stop using fake deadlines for control. ❌ Keeping your employees uncertain: ↳ Don't leave them guessing where they stand. ❌ Using shame and criticism: ↳ Don't treat performance reviews as threats. What to do as a leader: ✅ Recognize and appreciate: ↳ Ensure your employees feel valued. ✅ Invest in their growth: ↳ Create clear paths for career advancement. ✅ Share the bigger picture: ↳ Help them see how their work creates a meaningful impact. ✅ Give your team ownership: ↳ Trust them to make decisions and take risks. ✅ Stand behind your team: ↳ Protect them from politics and have their backs. If you're a Manager or Director, this is the game nobody briefed you on. A director I coach spent three weeks building the deck for one meeting. The decision was made before she walked in. Five minutes into her own agenda item, she got cut off. The project wasn't moving forward. She didn't lose the meeting. The meeting was the last stop, not the first. We tell ourselves senior leadership meetings are where the smartest people debate the hard calls. The best argument wins. The data leads. Here's what actually happens: → The idea was agreed over dinner the night before → The headcount was traded in a hallway before anyone sat down → "Let's discuss it in the review" was theater → The deck was built backward from an answer someone powerful already wanted → The real decision happened in a 7am Slack thread you weren't on 📌 Save this before your next big meeting. By the time it's on the calendar, it's already settled. The people in the room before you aren't smarter than you. They're better connected than you. That's not a competence problem. That's an access problem. And nobody is going to hand you that access. You take it. The leaders who figured this out stopped trying to win the meeting. → They pre-sold the idea in a 1:1 → They lined up the ally before the table → They killed the objection in private so it never surfaced in public → They walked in already holding the votes So stop preparing for the meeting. Start preparing for the dinner. And when it comes to work, I wince at how much energy was leeched out of me fighting imaginary battles in my head against opponents I was never going to change. It almost became a second job—regular night shifts full of stressing and venting with coworkers at the bar, on the couch with my partner, on the internet with friends and peers—warming up for wars I had no real chance of winning. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't stop being angry and disappointed—but I would funnel those feelings into areas where I had actual power. And I'd appreciate that narrowing my focus wasn't playing small, it was being smart.

Lauren Kelly reacted on this"Hey, want to work together again?" I've gotten that message from former colleagues a number of times over the last few years. Whether they lead to anything or not, they help. Not too long ago, I told another docs parent: "I'm not trying to get famous. I just want to make good docs and bring my kids to the playground after school." The new baby starts daycare full time next week, so my days will be a little more predictable, and I'll be on the full-time-job hunt. Text, call, email, DM, or catch me at the playground. Whether we've worked together or not. Maybe soon we can.

Lauren Kelly reacted on thisSomeone has been trying to scrape Bike Matrix Ltd compatibility data in order to build their own competitive product. Which in it's own way is both vastly amusing and extremely annoying. Did they think we wouldn't notice? Or that they could just scrape our data that one time and that's all they needed to do, because bikes, parts and compatibility is a static, unchanging thing? (Insert laugh track here, for those of you who know the bike industry.) It's extremely annoying because...I hate thieves. All thieves. That applies to bike thieves, generative AI companies that scrape everyone's creative output without permission or compensation thieves, and definitely thieves who try to steal years of other people's work to try to claim as their own. Which applies to this guy trying to steal Bike Matrix intellectual property. We know who it is, by the way. Like, right down to the street address. It wasn't hard to suss. They weren't particularly adept at covering their tracks. I'd love to knock on the door and just say, "Hey, WTF?" That would be highly entertaining. Now, in my position at Bike Matrix I don't have to deal with web based attacks, which is something I've done a LOT in past lives. I sort of wish I did because it can be kind of fun reverse engineering the attack vectors, the technologies used plus ferreting out the *who* behind it all. In this case Adam Barnes and his team have done a great job not only detecting the attacks but also backtracing it to the source and the individual. My hat is off to them for that! But, like they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! Or, as my Mother, a highly experienced, smart, ground breaking business woman once told me, "If they understood it, they'd have come up with it themselves." It's kind of awesome to be working at a company that produces something people can't figure out how to do. I'll just take that and end this on the upside. Seriously though, we have subscriptions. If you want a bicycle parts compatibility service for your bike shop, website, or whatever, you don't need to steal anything. *makes phone hand motion* Just call us. We're a pretty friendly bunch, I promise! 😉Lauren Kelly reacted on thisSomeone is trying to steal Bike Matrix Ltd. Yep, you heard me. Someone has been scraping our compatibility results. We're both mildly flattered and extremely annoyed.....and a little amused. Flattered that someone thinks it is so valuable that they want to copy what we've built and try to sell it to someone else. Annoyed because this is years of our hard work, not theirs. The thing is, we knew it would happen. We knew that some unsavoury types would try to steal our compatibility results at some point. That's why we built it the way we did. Every compatibility result is the answer to a live compatibility check using data that only makes sense to us. We know what normal behaviour looks like. This means that when we detect abnormal behaviour.... We can change the answer; We can change the data; We can change the bike identifiers. Anyone who can't build a compatibility system themselves will never know if the answer they scraped was correct.... ....or poison. If you're talking to somebody about a compatibility and it's not us. Talk to us. We can help you question where it comes from and if it's trustworthy. We're all about collaboration and helping the entire industry, not stealing from it. Many in the industry have already experienced what we mean when we say collaborate. We make the effort. We go the extra mile. We genuinely want others to succeed.
