He set two NCAA records, 13 Big Ten Conference records and 19 Purdue records, and he earned numerous national honors, including the Socrates Award and Academic All-American of the Year.

Shawn Campbell liked thisShawn Campbell liked thisI boarded a flight last week with a plan. Two and a half hours, tray table down, laptop open, inbox cleared before we landed. God had a different plan. I sat next to a man I'll call Bob. Late seventies, easy to talk to, and full of stories from a life well lived. Somewhere in that first hour the conversation turned to how God has worked in both of our lives. We ended up sharing things most people don't share with a stranger. I also shared with him the work I was doing with the Marine Corps Association Corps, helping Marines and their spouses and how fulfilling that was. Then he reached for his checkbook and wrote a check to the MCA. He handed it over and said, "This isn't my money. It's God's money. I am just His vehicle to share it, and He wants me to help your group." When we started our descent, I found myself not wanting the flight to end. Two and a half hours with a stranger felt like catching up with an old friend. When we got off the plane, we talked for a few more minutes and as I reached out to shake his hand, he embrace me in a hug - and I needed that. I do this too often. Head down, locked in on what's right in front of me, missing what's around me. I'm glad God had me look up on this one. I came home with a friend I'll be keeping in touch with for a long time. If you're reading this on a plane with your laptop open, consider saying hello to the person next to you first. The work will still be there. Thank you, Bob. And thank you, God, for the moments that matter — the ones we'd miss entirely if we never looked up.
