As an Amazon Future Engineer Scholar, having the opportunity to intern at Amazon was an incredible experience, especially working alongside the Catalyst Goose team, who were very supportive and collaborative. Throughout my summer, I worked on developing a gating mechanism with a built-in in-memory cache TTL that gates select workflows from deploying into the pipelines when blocked by Change Control. Beyond the technical implementation, I learned how to effectively leverage AI to solve complex problems. It was amazing seeing how AI is effectively orchestrated here. I couldn’t have done it without my amazing team of course. Special thanks to my manager Li C Zhao, my mentor Brandon Morgan, and my onboarding buddy Urjitha Bala Muktineni. I also want to thank the AFE team, Betty Beniam and Emma Hanan, for this opportunity. I am incredibly grateful for everything I learned this summer, and excited to carry this mindset forward as I continue my journey in college. Thank you Amazon for an unforgettable summer. The bootcamp significantly improved my problem-solving skills, strengthened my understanding of data structures and algorithms, and helped me a lot with my interview preparation for Amazon through consistent LeetCode practice and structured learning. Li C Zhao liked thisLi C Zhao liked thisYesterday I spent the day at SeattleFlow Startup Day — and I came home with a full notebook and a lot to think about. The day opened with Todd Bishop (GeekWire) interviewing Eric Ries — author of The Lean Startup — on his new book, Incorruptible. His book's argument: profit is the maximization of human flourishing. That framing stopped me cold. Mine is on the way, and I can't wait to dig in. I had 1:1 sessions with two advisors who gave me more in 15 minutes than I expected. Bill Bryant helped me think through strategies for finding donors and positioning an early-stage program to the right funders. Shannon Swift, SPHR (She, her) walked me through a framework for building a nonprofit board and how to define team culture from early on — exactly where I am. On the floor, I got to talk to Scott Case and Ambika Singh, two of the day's speakers, and a plethora of other people. I learned about Kindora — a fund coordination tool I hadn't heard of — and organizations like the Seattle Tech Alliance and Third Sector New England that support founders building for impact, not just profit. The through-line in almost every conversation: persist in the face of uncertainty. It's the one thing every founder in the room had in common. None of this happens without incredible organization. Marcelo Calbucci built something special with Seattle Flow - the talks, the structure, the energy on the floor, the crew that held it all together. Thank you, Marcello. Today, ECS introduced new capabilities that enable customers to deploy ECS Services natively through Linear and Canary traffic shifting patterns. These features complement ECS's existing Blue/Green Deployments by offering fine-grained traffic shifts while supporting lifecycle hooks, bake time, and alarm validations. The new capabilities increase deployment confidence and allow teams to quickly roll back to previous versions, helping them prevent service disruptions. I’ve intentionally built an E-shaped skill set by working across both IC and management career paths, specifically to bridge the skill gaps I’ve repeatedly seen in the industry. Throughout this journey, I’ve learned that many complaints voiced by ICs stems from operating model or management practices. These issues might persist unacknowledged and without empathy for long periods, leading to confusion, frustration, and sometimes a sense of paralysis. From my observations, this typically happens due to: - Missing or weak two-way feedback loops between individual contributors and managers - Breakdowns in top-down alignment caused by ineffective or inconsistent communication - Unclear or poorly defined responsibilities/expectations across teams and organizations I’ve learned that complaints and feedback always carry a signal and must be taken seriously. Even when I’m not the person who can fix the underlying issue, showing empathy and acknowledging the concern goes a long way. I’ve come to deeply value these feedback loops because they illuminate blind spots in the operating model that might otherwise go unnoticed. In my view, if a manager doesn’t appreciate this feedback, they haven’t yet matured into one of the most important aspects of the role: recognizing and addressing systemic signals from their team and removing barriers.
