Amy Blackshaw, CISSP reposted thisAmy Blackshaw, CISSP reposted thisBy 2030, the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) mandates a transition from traditional encryption to Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC). For critical infrastructure and enterprise leaders, this is an immediate security imperative. Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 threat intelligence confirms adversaries are executing "Harvest Now, Decrypt Later" (HNDL) attacks, targeting high-value Australian data for quiet exfiltration today. Data that is not quantum-resistant is already vulnerable. Amy Blackshaw, CISSP reposted thisAmy Blackshaw, CISSP reposted thisThe "Cryptographic Reset" is no longer a future problem. Yesterday, the White House signed a new Executive Order accelerating the mandatory timeline for post-quantum readiness. For years, post-quantum cryptography (PQC) has been discussed as an important, yet abstract future technical migration. Because the exact timeline for quantum computing felt far off, it was easy for organizations to push it down the priority list. That just changed. The deadlines are officially set: 2030 for key establishment and 2031 for digital signatures. While this mandates federal civilian agencies, the ripple effect will hit the private sector immediately. If your organization operates in critical infrastructure, federal contracting, energy, financial services, or healthcare, the pressure to prove quantum-readiness is about to skyrocket. But readiness isn’t just an algorithm swap. You cannot migrate what you cannot see. As security leaders, how do we operationalize this mandate? In his latest Palo Alto Networks blog post, Anand Oswal outlines 5 critical pillars to move from awareness to readiness: 1️⃣ See your exposure: Gain absolute visibility into cryptographic usage across your environments. 2️⃣ Prioritize high-value assets: Focus first on long-lived sensitive data and authentication. 3️⃣ Modernize trust infrastructure: Move away from fixed cryptographic assumptions to flexible architecture. 4️⃣ Automate the change: Ditch the point-in-time spreadsheets; automated tracking is a must. 5️⃣ Govern over time: Establish continuous ownership and governance as standards evolve. The Cryptographic Reset is here. Read the full breakdown on what this Executive Order means for your security posture at the link in the comments.

Amy Blackshaw, CISSP reposted thisAmy Blackshaw, CISSP reposted thisYou wouldn’t hand over your car keys without a second thought or give your credit card to anyone who asks, so why would you allow overly broad permissions at work? In the modern enterprise, giving someone a little too much power or granting access to those who don’t need it creates a world of chaos. Today, identity has become the primary attack vector because adversaries no longer break in - they simply log in using pervasive, uncontrolled privileges. Idira by Palo Alto Networks is the next-generation identity security platform built to secure every human, machine, and agentic identity for the AI enterprise. By replacing static, always-on access with dynamic, zero standing privilege controls, Idira helps you discover hidden risks and automate governance at machine speed. It’s time to control the chaos and secure every identity. Learn more. https://bit.ly/4u4KLaS

(Need support with your job search? Start here: https://bit.ly/4bKLp5p) Freedom of expression matters, BUT it's worth pausing to think about how your online presence might come across to current or future employers… I even verified this with one of my speakers during our Wonsulting weekly group calls - she said this is a deal breaker. So a few things worth keeping in mind: - Privacy Settings: Know who's actually seeing your posts across different platforms. If you have things you don’t want someone to see, private your account. - Professionalism: Even on personal accounts, steer clear of content that could come off as offensive, discriminatory, or damaging to your reputation. - Company Policies: Familiarize yourself with any social media guidelines your employer has in place (ask if you don’t know!) This isn't about suppressing who you are - it's about being intentional with the digital footprint you're leaving behind because you never know what your employer may see.. Amy Blackshaw, CISSP liked thisAmy Blackshaw, CISSP liked this10 Years, 10 Learnings, 10 People Today marks my 10th anniversary with #CyberArk (and now #Idira). Looking back, I can honestly say these have been the most gratifying, rewarding, and joyful years of my career. But you don't get through a decade of growth alone. To celebrate this milestone, I want to share a simple reflection: 10 years, 10 learnings, 10 people. These are the individuals who fundamentally shaped the professional—and the person—I am today. 1. No Security without Trust, No Trust without Integrity - Vincent Goh (吳志傑) taught me that integrity isn't complicated. It is simply about doing what's right when no one is looking. 2. Smart, Bold, Humble - This isn't just a tagline; it’s the culture Udi Mokady built, and it has become a mantra I try to carry with me everywhere. 3. Stepping out of our comfort zone - Matt Cohen constantly inspires me by leading by example. He showed me that the best version of ourselves is usually found just outside of what feels comfortable. 4. Hug your team & family - I was never a hugger until I met Udi Mokady and Shahar Layani. They showed me that a hug is worth a thousand expressions of love and affection. It is exactly how I greet my team and my family now. 5. Think like the best attacker you didn’t think of - Through Shay Nahari, I learned a hard truth: A good security pro thinks like an attacker, but a great security pro constantly reinvents the attacker we haven't even thought of yet. 6. Shit will happen; how you remediate makes all the difference - In our line of work, crisis is inevitable. Bryan Murphy ingrained in me that how well-prepared you are to remediate completely determines your outcome. 7. Change isn’t just constant; it’s accelerating - Quincy C.'s relentless pace of learning new tech and adopting AI is my constant reminder that the world is accelerating faster than ever, and I need to keep challenging myself to keep up. 8. Outside-looking-in vs. Inside-out - As vendors, it's so easy to default to an inside-out mentality. Thomas Fikentscher is constantly challenging us to look from the outside in so we can truly relate to our customers. 9. The toughest environments breed the tightest teams - Rohan Vaidya taught us how to bravely weather the hardest situations together. Going through the fire is exactly how the most resilient, integrated teams are built. 10. The power of a personal touch Learning someone's name, remembering a small detail about them, making a real connection—Vivek K. showed me that these little things make a world of difference. I owe a massive thank you to Vincent Goh (吳志傑), Udi Mokady, Matt Cohen, and Eduarda Camacho for giving me the space and opportunities to stretch and grow over the years. And most importantly, thank you to my incredible team. Thank you for believing in me and walking this unforgettable journey by my side. There is no “me” without my TEAM! Here’s to the next chapter.

Amy Blackshaw, CISSP liked thisAmy Blackshaw, CISSP liked thisLast week's White House Executive Order on advanced cryptographic attacks provided more clarity on timelines that have been missing from the post-quantum conversation. 2030 for key establishment. 2031 for digital signatures. The order applies to federal information systems first, but it extends the urgency to critical infrastructure operators, federal contractors, and any organization in regulated industries that follows federal procurement standards. My colleague Anand Oswal wrote about this clearly this week. The point that should land hardest with boards: adding support for post-quantum algorithms is not the same as safely migrating to them. You can have systems that technically support the new standards and still not be ready to use them at the scale and pace the timeline requires. The pattern should sound familiar. This is the same architecture we have been writing about for AI security. You cannot secure what you cannot see. Visibility leads, then assessment, then protection. The Discover, Assess, Protect sequence from yesterday's unified approach post applies just as cleanly to cryptographic readiness. The five actions Anand lays out track to the same operating model: 1️⃣ See cryptographic exposure across all environments. 2️⃣ Prioritize authentication, high-value assets, and long-lived sensitive data. 3️⃣ Modernize trust infrastructure to support evolving standards. 4️⃣ Automate cryptographic change so spreadsheets are not the operating model. 5️⃣ Govern readiness as a continuous discipline rather than a one-time project. The harvest now, decrypt later risk is the part most boards have not fully internalized. The data adversaries are capturing today is the data they plan to decrypt later. Organizations holding sensitive information with a multi-year shelf life have less time than the 2030 and 2031 milestones suggest. The Cryptographic Reset is already underway, and the window to organize a response is still open. The first step is visibility. https://lnkd.in/dTfyudrHNew Executive Order Accelerates Post-Quantum Readiness Amid the Cryptographic ResetNew Executive Order Accelerates Post-Quantum Readiness Amid the Cryptographic Reset

Amy Blackshaw, CISSP liked thisAmy Blackshaw, CISSP liked thisI’ve been playing the detection and response game for almost 20 years now, and I’ve always felt most people who play don't understand what it's about. The goal of detection and response is not to simply get better at it - it’s to make it as irrelevant as possible. Most alerts are evidence that something upstream failed. Most response actions are a reminder we’re cleaning up after a avoidable incident - a missing control, a bad process, excessive privileges, a misconfiguration, or a governance gap. Detection and response are essential compensating controls, don’t get me wrong. But the best SOC isn’t the one that can detect, triage, and resolve 10,000 alerts a day. It’s the one that continuously asks: “Why did this alert even exist in the first place?” and works to eliminate entire classes of future incidents. Organizations that obsess over better detection and response without a greater focus on prevention and risk reduction are optimizing the wrong thing. The strongest programs reduce noise by fixing root causes, not by tuning more rules, hiring more analysts, or simply throwing AI at the problem. Don’t just optimize for a better fire department. Optimize for fewer fires.

Amy Blackshaw, CISSP reacted on thisReally enjoyed joining the Palo Alto Networks and Idira (CyberArk) team in Dublin for an open and practical conversation on where identity security is heading. One of the points I shared was that moving towards Zero Standing Privilege is not just a technology change. You need to understand how people actually work, involve them early, and make sure the controls are practical enough to be adopted rather than worked around. As identity expands across users, service accounts, workloads, automation and AI agents, it is becoming just as important to understand what those identities are doing as it is to control their access in the first place. Thanks again to the Palo Alto Networks and Idira teams for the invitation, and to everyone who contributed to the discussion. #IdentitySecurity #ZeroStandingPrivilege #CyberSecurity
