One of the hardest things for a founder to do is recognize when the company needs something different than what made it successful in the first place. For Ryan Wedig, co-founder & CEO of Vasion, that moment came when the company started growing beyond its original vision. His co-founder, Jarrett Taylor, was an incredibly technical founder who had built the foundation of the company. But as Vasion expanded, Ryan realized they needed someone who could lead a much broader product organization. And Jarrett recognized it too. “I'm not the guy to have more than five developers. I'm not the guy to run product on a multi-feature set product.” That kind of self-awareness is rare. Sometimes the best thing a founder can do for a company is recognize where their strengths end — and have the humility to let someone else take it further.
