Variety reposted this
RIP #PatrickStewart. It shouldn't surprise anyone that he was on the right side of history in his first mention in @Variety. It came in the July 20, 1966, edition in a front-page story about how a group of British actors were protesting their government's involvement in the Vietnam war. Three years later, on Jan. 20, 1969, we gave Stewart a shoutout in a review of an L.A. production of "Much Ado About Nothing" with Helen Mirren and Ben Kingsley. Attached here are a few other examples of Stewart's appearances in our pages over the years. Without Patrick Stewart and his incredible presence on the bridge, there might never have been a second wind for "Star Trek" on TV. He made it so.
