Yesterday in San Antonio, a first-of-its-kind partnership was launched: Project Watershed 250. Texas Cyber Command Chief TJ White joined Governor Greg Abbott and White House National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross for the launch event. Project Watershed 250 is a pilot, initiated by the Trump administration through the White House Office of the National Cyber Director, that unites federal capabilities, private-sector tech, and Texas utilities to shield our most vital resource from cyberattacks. As the eighth-largest economy in the world, Texas operates critical infrastructure of national consequence. #TXCC is the state agency dedicated to defending that critical infrastructure, and we were grateful to see industry partners step forward yesterday to help protect Texas. As Chief TJ White expressed in his remarks: "The lesson at the heart of this initiative is that we change the math against our adversaries, through partnerships, people, processes, and technology. Together, we will set the standard. Together, we will stand watch in defense of our communities, our country, and our future." Yesterday, Texas Cyber Command (TXCC) Chief TJ White testified before the Texas House Committee on Delivery of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Chief White’s message: The most cost-effective cyber incident is the one Texas prevents. TXCC is designed to multiply the impact of every taxpayer dollar. By providing shared capabilities, expertise, intelligence, and operational support at statewide scale, TXCC helps Texas stop incidents before they become costly events and strengthens defenses across systems. The Command has provided cybersecurity response and support across Texas, and we were proud to share recent examples with the committee. Texas Cyber Command Chief TJ White joined DIR Executive Director and State CIO Tony Sauerhoff for a fireside chat at the TASSCC Conference. Jonathan M. Joshua, Chief Information Security Officer for the Office of the Governor, moderated the discussion. Their conversation focused on the work ahead for Texas: strengthening cyber defenses, responsibly advancing innovation, developing the next generation of cyber talent, and building partnerships that can meet emerging threats. For Texas Cyber Command, this mission is about bringing together expertise from across the state and turning shared knowledge into coordinated action. Texas is setting the standard. In the 2026 NASCIO-Deloitte Cybersecurity Study, state security leaders across the nation describe rising threats, tightening budgets, and an expansion of responsibilities. In this evolving threat landscape, Texas is building what Deloitte's Mike Wyatt calls a “whole-of-state” approach to cyber defense.
