Stratus® was thrilled to celebrate last week’s groundbreaking for Miami Country Day School’s new 76,000-square-foot Upper School and Dining Complex. Designed around courtyards and pavilions that bring nature, connection, and community into daily learning, the project will create a contemporary campus environment where students can gather, collaborate, and learn indoors and out.   Stratus is proud to serve as Architect of Record for this project, working alongside WRT as design architect. This milestone also builds on a relationship more than 15 years in the making, as Stratus continues our longstanding role as Miami Country Day School’s campus architect.   A special thank you to Cornelia Taudt-Ehrling, RA, AIA, NCARB, NAIS, Diego Martinez, Megan Rodriguez, Aaron Pineda, Jorge Alonso, and our entire education design team for their collaboration, responsiveness, and commitment to this important project. We’re also grateful to our project team consultants for their partnership: JLRD, Inc, Schwebke-Shiskin & Associates, Inc., DDA, Savino Miller, Jensen Hughes, Real Food, and Paramount.   The new additions are expected to open in Fall 2028. It's back-to-school season, and students have already begun flooding into the new Wellen Park High School of Sarasota County Schools in Florida. We're proud to have been the architect for this 81-acre state-of-the-art campus, which includes learning studios, science, skill, and art labs, performing arts rehearsal and performance space, and multiple sports and fitness spaces. The site, which holds over 2,200 students to accommodate the growing community, was also designed to incorporate existing natural features and preserved portions of the wooded landscape. The school was created using one of our high school prototypes, which enables scaling and tailoring to meet the needs of school districts. Designed to support learning today and inspire the leaders of tomorrow. From the classroom to real-world project experience, Marlen Perez is turning her passion for engineering into hands-on impact. As a Site Development Intern in our Houston, Texas office, Marlen has spent the past six months working alongside our multidisciplinary teams and gaining experience across land development and fuel systems. A B.S. in Civil Engineering student at the University of Texas at Tyler, she’s had the opportunity to see how engineering ideas move from drawings and design coordination to active project work in the field. Through projects involving fuel storage tanks, piping systems, and site development, Marlen is building technical skills, expanding her understanding of the AEC industry, and gaining the kind of experience that helps shape a strong future in civil engineering. This summer, we’re excited to spotlight Jonathan Taylor, a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Stratus. A Mechanical Engineering student at North Carolina State University, Jonathan is gaining hands-on experience alongside our multidisciplinary teams and broadening his understanding of the field through real-world project exposure. From site visits to seeing how construction plans come together in the field, he’s building a deeper appreciation for how architects, engineers, and other professionals collaborate to deliver successful projects. What starts as curiosity can grow into a career path. For Christian Castaneda, that curiosity began with building worlds in LEGOs and Minecraft—and eventually became a passion for architecture. This summer, Christian is bringing that same creative mindset to Stratus as an Architecture Intern in our Miami office, while continuing his studies toward a Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Miami. Through project coordination, site visits, construction documents, design plans, and bi-weekly project meetings, Christian is seeing firsthand how ideas move from drawings into the built environment. These experiences are helping connect what he is learning in school to the collaboration, problem-solving, and coordination that shape real projects. A Bachelor of Architecture student at Tulane University, Amanda is gaining hands-on experience alongside our multidisciplinary teams while continuing to build on an already impressive foundation. Her team design-build project, Growing Local Pavilion, developed through Tulane University’s School of Architecture and Built Environment, earned First Prize in the 2026 Rethinking The Future Awards a reflection of the creativity, collaboration, and community-focused thinking she brings to her work.
