Big things are taking shape in West Tennessee. Our team joined Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers this week to celebrate the start of construction on a new automated mat casting facility, the largest contract in district history. The facility will produce articulated concrete mats used to stabilize riverbanks and slow erosion along the Mississippi River. This project builds on our ongoing work with The Corps, including development of Armor 1, the mobile robotic system that deploys the mats along the river. Salas O'Brien is leading the project from design through construction, alongside Burr & Cole Consulting Engineers, Inc., Rose Construction Inc., and 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀, supporting efforts to keep the Mississippi River navigation channel running. Resilient energy infrastructure is essential to mission readiness. But funding it can be just as challenging as designing it. At Joint Base Andrews, Salas O’Brien supported the Defense Innovation Unit’s Finance First initiative, teaming with Johnson Controls to help develop the technical foundation for a new approach to deploying reliable, resilient energy solutions with reduced or eliminated upfront government capital. Our team provided data collection and technical analysis to capture energy, utility, and mission requirements—work that supports uninterrupted operations while helping create a scalable model for other federal installations.
