“When you have a pain management specialist on your side, you have everything you need.” After my knee replacement, I began experiencing pain that I thought was coming from my knee. My orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Spivey, did a great job with my knee replacement, but after evaluating me and reviewing imaging, he determined the issue wasn't my knee at all. The pain was actually coming from my back, and he referred me to Michael Appeadu, MD at Optim Pain Management. When I met Dr. Mike (Appeadu), he took the time to listen to what I was experiencing, thoroughly assess my pain, and explain all of my treatment options. We tried physical therapy, but it didn't provide the relief I needed. Dr. Mike then performed an epidural injection that immediately relieved the nerve pain in my leg, and that relief lasted more than a year. As we continued working to address my back pain, he carefully guided me through the next steps. After discussing my treatment options, I decided to move forward with the Intracept® procedure. Later, I also underwent an ablation procedure to target additional pain. Every procedure was performed at Optim Medical Center Tattnall, and my experience there was wonderful. Dr. Mike and his staff were caring, professional, and supportive throughout the entire process. The results have made a tremendous difference in my life. For more than a year, I couldn't walk through Walmart and had to rely on one of the riding carts every time I shopped. Today, I can walk through the store on my own. I was scared at first because of things I had heard from other people about pain management treatments, but Dr. Mike always took the time to answer my questions, explain my options, and make sure I felt comfortable moving forward. I would absolutely recommend anyone struggling with back pain or pain that travels into their legs to see a pain management specialist. I'm so glad I did it. Last week Optim Pain Management’s Dr. Appeadu, Dr. Niederwanger and Dr. Reyes joined Optim Primary Care’s Dr. Wickstrom and Lisa Dasher-Anderson, NP for a wonderful lunch and learn event where attendees learned about advanced treatments for chronic neck, back, shoulder, and nerve pain.
