Opening day at the Great New York State Fair was a success! We had a wonderful time meeting so many fairgoers. We debuted our brand-new mock judge’s bench, registered volunteers for jury duty, and talked Careers in the Courts. We can’t wait to see what day two “Student Youth Day” has to offer. Pathways to the Bench: A Virtual Judicial Mentoring Workshop Thursday, September 17, 2026, 6–7:30pm The Failla Commission has launched a judicial mentoring program to support the next generation of LGBTQ judges. The program pairs eligible attorneys—those with at least eight years of practice—with experienced judicial mentors. While mentors do not provide political guidance, they offer valuable support, insight, and encouragement to attorneys as they navigate the path to become a judge. The program provides mentors for attorneys interested in becoming judges through the appointment or electoral process. Throughout the majority of july I took on a new role as an intern at the Supreme Court under the Students in the Courts program headed by Jasmine Valle-Bueno 'm beyond grateful for the opportunity to see behind the scenes of the Supreme, Civil, and Housing Courts. Gaining firsthand knowledge from leaders in the legal field was eye-opening. Before this experience, I wasn't even certain that I wanted to be in the legal field. Now I'm certain this is a goal in life to become an attorney. The incredible judges, attorneys, and fellow interns created an unmatched perspective on how fulfilling this career path can be. At the conclusion of our internship, I was honored to participate in front of Judge Karen Lin in my oral argument for a matrimonial custody case. Though my client did not receive custody, I learned how I could improve in the future. Additionally, my partner Arianna Yashayev and I wrote a successful piece for a newsletter on Administrative Supreme Court Judge Marguerite A. Grays. Hearing her story was inspiring, how she broke the glass ceiling to get to where she is now. I also learned from her that her biggest success was when she helped pave the path for future generations; I can only hope one day I can do the same. This internship was like no other. I want to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the students of the courts 2026 Queen's Supreme Court civil term. I hope to see all of my fellow interns in the courtroom one day.
