What can happen when we give young people space to explore their emotions? They can discover new ways to cope, learn from one another, and open themselves up to new ideas. That’s what Me in Mind by NAMI is designed to support. These free, flexible activities help kids ages 5–13 build emotional awareness, resilience, and healthy coping skills through meaningful conversations and experiences. Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, educator, or someone who works with young people, there’s an activity bundle designed for the kids you support. Explore Me in Mind by NAMI: nami.org/MeInMind

This week marks the beginning of Suicide Prevention Month. This September, join us in starting the conversation. Silence should never be the response to someone's pain. At NAMI, we know that one conversation can save a life. No matter what is going on, help is available. No one has to face this alone. We'll be sharing resources and spreading awareness about suicide prevention all month long. Learn more at nami.org/SPM. #SuicidePreventionMonth #YouAreNotAlone #BeTheDifference

Students learn skills in school that help prepare them for the future. Understanding their mental health should be one of them. Mental health literacy can help young people understand how to maintain positive mental health, know about common mental health conditions and treatments, seek help effectively, and recognize and reduce stigma. FLARE by NAMI gives middle school educators flexible, fully developed lesson plans and research-based content designed to build these skills in the classroom. Mental health education can give young people knowledge they can carry with them long after the school year ends. Help bring mental health literacy into your local schools: flare.nami.org

“What I appreciate about this project is that the researchers understand that you can't design a project without holding the patient in mind...that’s why I appreciate that this program is incorporating the voices of those who are living with depression and informing the work that they're doing. We oftentimes say at NAMI, ‘Nothing about us without us,’ right? And so this is a great model for how research should be done.” - Christine M. Crawford, MD, MPH Earlier this week, NAMI’s chief medical officer Dr. Christine Crawford joined Steve Hoffmann from the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) on the Psychiatry Boot Camp podcast. Together, they highlighted the newly launched Multimodal Assessment and Phenotyping in Depression (MAP-D) initiative, and the critical importance of including lived experience voices in research design. As a former college tennis player and fan, NAMI CEO Dan Gillison, Jr. knows a little something about the “inner game” that’s such an important part of tennis. Earlier this year, Dan had the chance to get back on the court with fellow tennis fan, former college tennis player, and NAMI National Board member Nathan Romano. It was a reminder of how much of tennis is mental: staying focused, managing pressure, bouncing back after a tough point, and being ready for the next one. Those lessons extend well beyond the court. As we watch the best in the world compete at the US Open, it’s a good reminder that mental health is health. At NAMI, we work every day to make sure people know that taking care of their mental health matters and that no one has to do it alone. Taking care of our minds matters just as much as taking care of our bodies, in sports and in life. #USOpen #MentalHealthIsHealth #YouAreNotAlone
